Got a big, bulging box from @CarolinaCardinals today. Absolutely unnecessary but very appreciated Tom! There was 1 stout in the box so I'm going to get that one out of the way first. Collaboration Without Representation from Deep River. Love to know the story behind this name?

I love the words coffee, stout, and barrel aged on a label and this delivers on every one of those promises. The stout seems to be all about creamy milk chocolate with a hint of something jammy peeking through. The coffee addition is smooth and nutty, adding a little roasty char. The barrels are pretty mellow, light vanilla and a little heat. Thanks Tom, this is really good!

Bare Arms Brewing (Waco, TX) Kiss of Joule barrel aged Malbec stout clocking in at 10%. Bitter dark chocolate, licorice, and an earthy smokiness make this a very nice after hockey beer!

Kind of regretting skipping this when I saw it on the shelves. Oh well, I'm sure there's still a few hanging around out there to buy

Here's a great. Nice to see it on shelves! Notes of bourbon, chocolate, molasses, black licorice, smoked wood, and dark berries. Cheers! (Note: proper hotel plasticware)

Midnight Sea on tap at Cellarmaker in Oakland. A stout collab with Toppling Goliath. Aged in a variety of bourbon barrels with additional aging in Willett bourbon barrels. 14% ABV. Creamy, barrel forward, and oily. Big notes of chocolate, vanilla, marshmallow, and toffee. Nice barrel presence.

Rum barrel-aged beers are often very good or very bad. This one is very good. Courtesy of @azuelke.

[IMG] Noble Stein, “Cut & Pastry” Double Chocolate Pastry Stout. This is probably the most non-pastry stout pastry stout I’ve ever had!

Checking in on this one after a year. Admittedly, I recently found this on a shelf in maybe not the best storage conditions. Tasting pretty good. I’ve found the 2 year mark to be my personal sweet spot for BCBS. I have one from release day which has been kept refrigerated ever since, so will probably open that next year, as I can’t find many in the wild now

2020 Cafe Deth. One of the few good things that came out of that year. So good I almost drank two. But the few working brain cells I had left (it’s been a day) told me that might not be the best idea.
I argued of course, but the brain won the argument. Stupid brain.

Uh Oh! We officially have too many things in common. Not that I have played D&D in a loooong time. Now it’s time to sit out back with a high-test stout, a cigar, and some Steppenwolf, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and The Doors.

I feel that way about Brooklyn Chocolate stout lately. Something is different, but not for the better.
