    1. Pouring beers into dirty or previously used glassware.
    2. There are no “classics” on the menu…
    3. …or the options consist of IPAs and only IPAs.
    4. Bartenders not paying attention to guests.
    5. Serving beers exclusively in pint glasses.

I wonder what a "classic" is in the Redditverse.

Here’s one, every time you visit the taproom, the same couple of locals are there and hardly anyone else. That doesn’t seem like a sustainable business to me. There is a brewery I visit maybe once every few months and I noticed this. They make darn good beer and have a nice variety of styles as well. But little foot traffic, but it could be the day/time I visit as well. Seems a lot of taprooms I visit don’t bring in much weekday traffic (exception trivia nights) but heavy volume on Friday evenings and Saturday/Sunday daytime.

Because of the state’s health & safety regulations, a cross-contamination issue.

An explanation I found via a web search:

“By putting your lips to the glass you have contaminated it with your bacteria. When that used glass is refilled, say with lager, the nozzle from the lager pump is immersed in the lager filling your contaminated glass. The glass contaminates the lager, the lager contaminates the pump, and therefore potentially the next person who has a lager from that pump.”

Needless to say but this applies to serving draft beer. If you are drinking bottled/canned beer then reusing the same glass is OK. But this doesn’t apply to you since you prefer to drink directly from the can.

    Cheers!

#1 and #4 are the most annoying to me.

If the place doesn't serve what I like (either be it classics or IPAs), then I'll just move on elsewhere. On the other hand, it's incredibly annoying and sometimes disappointing if they provide the variety & options I desire, but serve it in dirty glasses or hire bar service that can't provide reasonable service times.

I was actually asking why it bothers him to not get a new glass each pour.

Learned in the late 60s when turned 21. Beer glasses cannot be refilled from a tap. It is a health rule to avoid back contamination from glass to tap. No problem topping up from a bottle or pitcher, though, . Apparently "conservative" Oregon hasn't loosened health laws. In Portland the pitchers were smaller too, because rules limited the amount that couId be served to a small group at one time.

Aren't all glasses at a bar/brewery previously used? Unless you get there just after they've entered a new case into the system?

I could hit a “only IPAs” brewery if they’re good. Bartender not paying attention to guest would piss me off though.

I'm kinda torn. Mostly I hate bartenders that talk too much, ask questions, and get nosey than I do the ones who pour me my beer and then ignore me.

I think the point is the bartender who ignores you when you need that refill. But maybe that's just what I expect in my bar experience.

Get it. I’m not going there to be friends with them, a couple words don’t hurt and isn’t too much to ask.

In a different context and situation, I don’t really like going for a haircut. As you said because they can be nosey “what do you do for a living?”, “are you married/have children”.

I’m not even some weird sociopath. A few words exchanged and brief chatter is good. Ignoring is bad, being nosey is bad. Okay I’m a oddball to begin with.

I am quite capable of getting attention when I want it. Not a shy flower am I.

I've never had a problem stopping at the bar on my way back from the pisser for a beer if I'm thirsty.
