Having obtained approval to begin early (Thanks @FBarber) let this holiday NBW begin, which I anticipate being open through Monday to accommodate the long weekend.

Let's see the new brews being enjoyed, tell us all about them here! Bring pictures, full reviews, thoughts, and impressions. How those sweet suds look, taste, feel, and if it was any good.

Coming to me from Uinta Brewing - a 30th anniversary special edition of Birthday Suit, an annual sour series.

Purchased from the brewery for $4/can - canned 7.18.23 with '#Pack the Uinta' printed on the bottom.

Poured at fridge temp into a sad excuse of a glass, but hey, its 20oz and fits all that head!

Body is somewhere between a candy red and an apple/crimson red with a tall 3F tight foam with a red sheen that left some chunky lacing before settling into a thin and loose ring. 4

Fairly what I'd call standard berliner weisse tart aroma, slight earthiness, but no real hint of cherry or anything else. 3.5

Barely tart, and hardly acidic which is nice for a change, and makes this very easy drinking. Fairly generic sweetness, and some light sour cherry on the finish. 3.5

Lighter carbo, equally light body, and very refreshing. 3.75

Overall a decent version of the annual I've had a few times before, if not a touch underwhelming, simply because of the higher abv corresponding with a higher price. (normally a 5% sour and about $1.50/can) Happy to have tried it and would certainly drink again, though would not go out of my way to seek it out. Favorite part was the tongue in cheek Adam and Eve/Creation story art I know and love about this Valley. 3.75

Well, since I've got more to enjoy, I'll continue!

New this year as well -

    Red Rock - Quite Frankly

'Quite Frankly is an American Pilsner dry hopped with Citra and Mosaic hops for a citrus bouquet that finishes clean and crisp'

Canned 8.17.23 - purchased from the brewery beer store for about $2.50

Poured at fridge temp into an unfortunate glass.

Pours clean and clear pale yellow with 2F loose head that trailed some woodland camo-esque pattern lacing before settling into a loose cap and ring. 4

Hops balance is quite nice, loads of tropical fruitiness without being cloying or oversweet. No note of malts or cereal grains, even after letting it warm a bit, but it does the tropical hops well. 4

Very clean and sharp, pleasantly hop forward. Somewhere in the 30-40 IBU range if I had to guess. After that hoppy beginning the grains come out to play, grainy and grassy. 4

Lightly dry, and very clean on the palate. Moderate carbo bite and only a soft lingering hop finish. 3.75

Overall a delightful and pleasant pilsner I was not expecting to be anything outside of 'decent' this was very good and nearly an even 4.0 of a beer. Well done RR crew! I'll be back for many more of this one, especially while its fresh. 4

I'm looking forward to how many more insults you can hurl at that thing :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

HA! Until I find a second excuse to go up to SLC (the now rebranded Salt Lake Brewing Co, formerly Squatters, - its a whole confusing mess - to replace my 20oz willi becher) I'll have to balance use between this and my weizen glass, which appears to be missing currently. Onto a hunt for it!

Gueuzerie Tilquin - Oude Airelle Sauvage Tilquin à L'Ancienne

Fruit Lambic with lingonberries, from Belgium (6.5%).

Pours a cloudy, carmine red coloration with a large, foamy head. Smells of doughy malt and lingonberries, with some estery fruit and strong musty, cheesy funk and tannic oak coming through as well.

Taste is an excellent balance of doughy malt, lingonberries and estery fruit, with accents of green apple, gooseberry and cranberry, as well as strong moldy, blue cheese funk and musty, tannic oak, as well as hints of balsamic vinegar. Finishes with a medium/strong sourness and some lingonberries, funk, oak and vinegar lingering in the aftertaste. Effervescent mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This is one of the funkiest, sour Lambics I've had in a while and I'm loving it. The lingonberries add their own tartness and bitterness to the mix here, while the pronounced, musty, cheesy funk, distinct, tannic oakiness and hints of balsamic vinegar really leave a strong impression without this feeling too astringent or overly sour and vinegary. Additional fruity esters still make themselves known, with hints of freshly mown, wet grass and floral rosewater coming throug as well.

I really feel blessed to have access to such a steady supply of Tilquin Lambic, which is easily on par with Cantillon and 3F, with this being a particularly radiant example of the style with a vibrant, complex and well-balanced flavor profile.

    Alus Darbnīca Labietis - Plava

Herb and Spice beer with meadowsweet and yarrow, from Latvia (6.3%).

Pours a deep, golden amber coloration with a small, fluffy head. Smells of doughy malt and strong notes of the herbal additions, with subtle hints of citrus hops coming through as well.

Taste is a great balance of doughy malt, fruity hops, with hints of tangerine, and strong herbal additions of meadowsweet and yarrow, carrying notes of mint, anise, honey and vanilla. Finishes with a medium bitterness and hints of anise and vanilla lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

While this probably isn't for everyone, I quite enjoyed it personally, but I do very much enjoy Herb and Spice Beers in general. The meadowsweet and yarrow come through distinctly here without feeling overpowering, even leaving some room for the citrus hops. Overall, this makes for a well-balanced and flavorful beer with a unique flavor profile.

Alus Darbnīca Labietis - Soho Švītiņš

English Bitter with Goldings and Galaxy hops, from Latvia (4.4%).

Pours a cloudy, reddish mahogany coloration with a small, fluffy head. Smells of bready, caramel malt and herbal, earthy hops, with a certain honey accent as well.

Taste is a great balance of bready, caramel malt and herbal, earthy, slightly fruity and spicy hops, with notes of rosemary, subtle tropical fruit and peppery spice, as well as just a hint of honey. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some caramel malt, earthy hops and hints of honey lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

Although Galaxy hops certainly are an odd choice for the style, this makes for a really nice example of it anyway since the Goldings are clearly dominating here, with Galaxy only adding very subtle tropical accents and the herbal, earthy, spicy notes from Goldings coming though a lot stronger.

One kinda has to wonder why bother using the Galaxy hops at all then, although I suppose that even those very subtle tropical accents do add an interesting twist on the traditional take on the style here, while this still firmly holds true to those traditional roots. Very nive balance of malt and hops, sweetness and bitterness as well.

Holiday weekend NBW, good to be back friends, hope everyone had a good week and hopefully everyone can settle in and have a nice long weekend to close out "summer season" For me it means going back to work...yes, being a teacher is the world's greatest job come summer time :stuck_out_tongue: I feel grateful every time it comes and it is always a bizarre feeling come fall, time to get to know and manage ~100 new teenage personalities and remember their names :astonished: but boy do I crave routine, so this final weekend of summer is always bittersweet to me.

I was excited to start early cause my new beer this weekend is a Oktoberfest Marzen and there is actually some cool air tonight with a heat wave incoming next week. The smell of smoke and the noise of kids while roasting marshmallows greets me through the fence. Best drink a fall beer tonight on the patio...photo and appearance done in my cave away from home at the in laws.

Back to the cave, mosquiters were out, Phillies on, playing against the, wouldn't you know...BREWERS, I guess I'm in the right place.

Iron Hill Brewery - Oktoberfest (Marzen 6%)

Pours crystal clear, perfectly amber, mostly white head builds nicely and settles quick but not super fast, leaves a substantial film that attempts to cling to the glass with not much luck.

The nose on this beer is very nice; its rich bread crust like all the way there is a pleasant little amount of hops that shine through too, a touch of rye like spice and some woodsy aromatics.

The taste is rich in bread and bread crust as well; like very well done...the hops present themselves on the finish and lend the foreshadowed little bit of spice and more of an earthy subdued grass like finish.

Somehow at 6% this beer still resides in the light body range for me, I'm not sure how but this thing goes down like water; carbonation presents itself smoothly, there is a low but noticeable little bitter hop bite on the finish; to me it is not overdone and actually enhances the clean finish on this beer, it is not the most dry beer but it is also far from lingering malt or sweet.

This is a beer that just works well for me, it's a pretty beer, it is very pleasant to smell, the taste is well balanced and has a slight something unique and balanced about it, and it is highly drinkable; good beer that I enjoyed.

    ----------------------

Tomorrow is gonna be a long busy day for us so if I don't see you all tomorrow, be back Sunday :beers:

    4.18/5 rDev 0%
    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Brewers notes : Our fruited sour that’s reminiscent of lemon pound cake. This one is crazy. Conditioned on Lemon, marshmallow and lemon soft serve ice cream. DOES NOT CONTAIN LACTOSE. CONTAINS A MILK DERIVATIVE

Chilled 500 ml bottle poured into a pretentious beer glass, thin white layer quickly fades over a thick mango juice purée looking liquid

    Aroma is lemon citrus, vanilla

Taste is lemon, vanilla marshmallow , tastes like a lemon creamsicle

Sweet tart lemon tang , thick mouthfeel, low sudsing

    Good beer

Perhaps my last new beer for today, so I can save some for the rest of the weekend

    RoHa - Pumpkin Black

No canning date - purchased from the grocer for about $1.80

Poured at fridge temp into a tulip glass courtesy of @Whyteboar

Pours more of a dark brown, nearing on chocolate but is very light around the edges. Appears to be mildly opaque. 3.75

Off the can I get sweet candied pumpkin, reminiscent of pie, with some gourd/squashiness. Off the glass I get a touch more of chocolate. Both together are sweet and pleasant, begging me to come back for more. 4

Allspice, and mix of vanilla extract and soft chocolate forward. Cinnamon, more allspice and pumpkin round out the finish. 4

Body contains just a touch of carbo, 5% abv lends toward its lightness, and is clean on the palate as well. 3.75

Overall this is a nice competitor to Wasatch's Black O'Lantern, my personal favorite pumpkin beer, but this is a very close second. Aroma and taste are spot on, and I think a nitro or cask version would greatly benefit it. 4

    Cheers!

    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4

Pours a dark, clear brown color; dark mahogany hue in the glass; thick, khaki colored head, dense and creamy; specks of foam dot the glass. Very nice aroma; subtle with chocolate and spicy tones; suggestion of anise. Fantastic flavor; light milk chocolate with touches of vanilla and a subliminal hint of mint; medium to heavy bitterness, stronger towards the finish. Heavy body; rich and velvety; very light touch of alcohol warmth despite its low ABV.

A rich, no-nonsense dark ale, very flavorful and satisfying.

I'm glad that this is starting this evening, as I have a new beer to try: Jack's Abby Munich Fest. I saw the Fest with the Best variety pack and had to pick it up, as the other three beers are favorites (Copper Legend, Post Shift, House Lager). JA is slowly creeping back into my area and the prices are competitive and now even beating some of the locals!

Pours from a can (07/25) a slightly hazy darker yellow color, strong carbonation and head. Smell is a typical Lager, taste is the same and it has a very nice crisp, cracker-y thing going on and it ends a little dryly and well balanced. Fantastic beer and another worthy Oktoberfest addition this year.

And a big cheers to another variety pack that doesn't contain an IPA and has four beers that I want. :beers:

Glad to join in NBW early since I'll be on the road tomorrow to Ames, IA for the Iowa State-Northern Iowa showdown in the heat.

Here's a Cold IPA from one of my local favorites, Dangerous Man:
Appearance: Slightly hazy pale yellow, ok head.

    Smell: Vague fruitiness, lemony.

Taste: Lemony sweetness, with some breadiness backing it up. Very mild bitterness, with medium-light body. Quite refreshing.

Overall: Dangerous Man is now distributing cans after being a taproom-only destination for quite a few years. This cold IPA seems to be a new beer and is a nice thirst quencher, not a flavor explosion type beer, but a nice easy drinker.
