Mudcake Banger from Pohjala out of Estonia.

A fine stout, but not better than the base. Lots of bitter cacao and a little ethanol heat. Kind-of one dimensional. I honestly expect better from these folks.

It's enjoyable enough to drink though. Just makes me wish we got more of their barrel aged stuff

Left about half of this glass while I put the kids to bed. Returning to the glass after an hour or so I found it to be much better integrated. The ethanol note had disappeared and whole thing a much nicer rounded character

Maplewood '21 Barrel Aged Cuppa Imperial Stout - Sea Salt, Dark Chocolate, Almond. A touch under 23 months in the can. Per the brewery:
Blended from Cuppa aged in Blanton's, Eagle Rare, Four Roses, Wild Turkey, and Maplewood Whiskey barrels for 12 to 18 months. Conditioned on roasted almonds, cacao nibs, vanilla beans, a touch of sea salt, and coffee hand selected from our neighbors, Hexe Coffee.

Pours like motor oil and sets in glass pitch black. Produces a half finger of dark mocha, reddish tinted head that dissipates immediately and leaves nothing behind. Huge alcohol legs. A menacing looking brew.

Aroma gives off a big bourbon barrel character (oak, bourbon spirit, slight vanillin), along with cocoa powder, dark chocolate bar, caramel, some coffee, some vanilla, toasted almond, some roasted malt, and slight black cherry. Not a huge nose, but what's there is inviting.

Taste follows the aroma nicely, bringing dark chocolate syrup and fudge, cocoa powder, some toasted almond, some salinity, molasses, some caramel, vanilla, some dark roast coffee, some star anise, and big barrel qualities. The barrel offers oak tannin, bourbon spirit, and some vanillin.

Full body. Dense, creamy, oily. Still a little heat from the barrel despite almost 2 years in the can. Much drier than expected, which is welcomed.

This certainly isn't the best BA Cuppa I've had by these guys, but I heard the '21 release just wasn't up to par from the previous year, which I was able to land cans of and was blown away by. It's aged nicely at almost 2 years. The barrel presence is the show on this one. Quality stuff.

That's my favorite variant. It hits all the utopias flavors for a fraction of the price.

Nice roasty base and very minimal sweetness Bourbon Barrel presence isn't massive , but not surprising at all wlsince this is 9.9% which is nice for a change .
I don't always want a 12%+ beer especially these days

Perfect hotel room stout tonight! Muda from Pühaste Brewery in Estonia. An imperial stout brewed with cocao nibs, cocoa paste, molasses, and lactose. 11% ABV. Picked this up in Canada.

Pours motor oil black with almost no head. The nose is great. Vanilla, lactose, chocolate milk, black licorice, and some roasted malts.

The taste is super creamy and a wonderful mix of sweet and roasty. Vanilla, maple, brown sugar, burnt toffee, chocolate, roasted malts, lactose, and some raisins. Lovely.

Mouthfeel is thick and creamy, and the ABV is not detectable. Super smooth and would definitely buy again.

Check their website. They evidently have some of that in bottles aged in Elijah Craig barrels…and some BA doppelbock… Guess where I’m probably stopping later this week.
