My love for imperial stouts has lost its luster after many years. I suspect absence will make my heart grow fond though, and my already acquired stouts will be there waiting when that comes to pass.

well, this was a real treat. never had a BAA variant before (there only one or two others i believe) and this did not disappoint. chocolate and chocolate-forward coffee with a rich, thick base stout aged in whiskey barrels. the cinnamon and the vanilla were very balanced and kept in check. the peppers played well with the coffee and the barrel-aging. good stuff. cheers!!

Boozy orange zest, black pepper, dark chocolate. Aroma is a bit more herbal. Oak and caramel in there too. Definitely complex

Goose Island '21 Bourbon County Fourteen (Imperial Stout aged in rye whiskey with cassia bark, cacao nibs, and coconut water). Still drinking mighty fine. Get a snickerdoodle cookie and coconut macaroon vibe, but not as forward as the OG 2014 version. The cassia bark becomes a little overpowering as it warms. Still a nice rye whiskey barrel presence that brings rye spice, oak, obvious whiskey, and some vanillin. Classic Bourbon County flavors with a twist. Still very enjoyable, but not as good as the OG.

One left. The Blue/Brie-cheese works surprisingly well. Not spectacular, or great, or wow, but no regrets.

Im back to share an imperial stout with this illustrious crew. This is Rock Art Brewing out of Morrisville, Vermont. The beer is Bourbon Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout a 10% ABV brew. Also trying out the picture post option from Discord channel of BA. Seems like it works just fine.

    onto my review:
Sampling a 22 oz bottle at cellar temp and poured into my snifter. Doesnt appear to have a date stamp on the bottle, but I bought this in New Hampshire in summer of 2022. It has been in my cellar since purchase.
The beer pours a dark cola brown with minimal creamy beige head of .5 cm. This foam fades quickly to only the thinnest of edge layers, even though there is an active bubbling on the surface from streams of carbonation.
Aroma is roasted malts a bit of black coffee, loads of bourbon and vanilla and a bit fusol black peppery booze note. No hop character and the booze catches me off guard as its only a 10% ABV stout.
The first sip reveals a medium body and smooth texture with fine and gentle carbonation. Beer drinks pretty easy for smelling so boozy.
Flavor is roasted malts and bourbon hits here too. Not overly complex flavor profile. Bitey booze comes back on the finish and there isnt really any hop presence. Strangely not a ton of warmth on the finish to accompany the black peppery boozy bite.
This feels and tastes like an olde school, no frills Bourbon Barrel Aged Impy Stout. I do think the body is little lighter than I would prefer and its sort of one dimensional. Its fine, but I wouldnt buy this one again.

Don’t know why I grabbed this beer specifically but glad I did. Whoda thunk an American Imperial Stout aged on roasted hazelnuts, vanilla bean and toasted coconut could taste like joy in a glass. Not sweet per se, but definitely flavored and it works much better than I thought it would.
Ah well, back to the basics tomorrow. Cheers all!

FOCOCO from Bottle Logic. This bottle if from 2022, and I'll open the 2023 version soon before my memory of this one fades.

Pours a thick and creamy black with a thin layer of dark brown head. The nose is amazing. Coconut and vanilla reign supreme here. Notes of bourbon and chocolate emerge after this initial burst. Rich malts and bread are there as well.

The taste follows the nose nicely. Sweet caramel, vanilla, coconut, bourbon, slight booziness, brown sugar, and raisins. Just wow.

The mouthfeel is insanely thick and viscous. Amazing.

Barrel aged cream stout brewed with blueberries.
Emphasis on the blueberries. I got no barrel, no bourbon, and not quite enough stout. Oh well, they can’t all be amazing.
    Cheers!

This is excellent. Interboro 5th Anniversary aged two years in two different Weller barrels and one year in double oaked Beam. The bourbon flavors are prominent and distinguishable, the base stout is full and flavorful, ABV is a sipper kicker. Overall firing on all cylinders. I only bought one at $25/500, but now I wish I bought more for the shelf.
