Hello from OH. Lurker and newbie to the world of craft beer.

Username is Japanese for "drop of color." Name of a brand of fountain pen ink, another of my hobbies.

Pretty much like everything I have tried, but really haven't tried a bunch. Some of my favorites so far are Land Grant's Stiff Arm, Great Lakes Brewing Edmund Fitzgerald Porter, and Duvel Belgian Blonde Ale. Absolutely open to suggestions and knowledge.

Great to be here and enjoy learning and swapping stories. Cheers.

It's always nice to have another Buckeye on the site. I'm a former one myself, and still am at heart. Welcome to membership.

Have you tried any IPAs yet? Enjoying hop flavors is a challenge for many who are newly entering this craft beer culture. If you decide that you don't like hops, don't worry. Most of us who started out disliking hops will eventually come around. If you try a regular IPA, or what is frequently called a West Coast IPA (crisper, stronger hops) and don't like them, try a New England IPA or one that is referred to as a Hazy IPA, they are more fruity and easier on the palate. Most importantly, always check freshness dates on hoppy beers. 4-5 months old is my general cut-off to leave it on the shelf.

Deciding that IPA question goes a long way in deciding what's next. And anything can be next. Buy your beers from stores that sell single cans/bottles and try every style that sounds good from the style description in the BEERS header on the main menu. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/styles/ That list also gives you a list of the most popular beers in any chosen style, so if it's popular, it's probably a good choice. Look up and read some reviews while standing in the store if you want some reinforcement. And have fun on your journey.

Welcome. Now that you’ve jumped on deck, poke around. You will find some doors have opened to more functionality. If not otherwise aware, there are specific forums for various regions. Great Lakes Region includes OH.

    Have fun!

Thanks @PapaGoose03. Hugely awesome information in the above and great to meet you.

I have had a few IPAs and really enjoy the flavor of hops (in beers I have tried, at least). Stiff Arm by Land Grant is an IPA, and I have also enjoyed Lagunitas IPA and some others at local brewhouses that I can't remember the names of. A Hazy IPA is next on my list to try, I think the fruiter notes would appeal.

Outside of IPAs, my first beer was a Guinness I shared with my dad so Stouts will always be special to me. Other than that, I embarrassingly know very little about what I have tried. Really never paid attention, just grabbed the first thing on the menu that stood out. Before beer I was deep into the whiskey rabbit hole, but I had to level with myself as I was doing it to fit in, when I don't regularly enjoy drinking whiskey.

Long ramble but... your comments were very much appreciated. Already scoped out some local stores to check out tomorrow that look to fit your recommendations. Cheers and good health to you and yours!

...welcome to BA!...as an Ohio native (Mansfield was my home for my first 27 years), Guinness was my first exposure to different beers, too (I still recall the awe of finding this rich, dark beer in a 4-pack)...something so different from the usual rust belt lagers that were around...I've not escaped the rabbit hole of craft / foreign beer since...

...I think you'll find a lot of good information and some great people to associate with (online and in-person) as you explore the BA universe...

Welcome from a displaced South Columbus hillbilly! Ohio has a plethora of excellent breweries. Great Lakes, CBC, Fat Head's, Jackie O's, Rhinegeist - anything from any of these is worth checking out. I like to visit taprooms and order flights of beers to try. You might find some new favorites that way.

    Cheers, and GO BUCKS!!
