Cracking my last bottle of Brew 3000 (From 2019) from Fremont. Barleywine aged in bourbon barrels. I wanted to give this a few years to see how the sweetness evolves. It's freaking delicious. Tons of gooey toffee, big malts, plums, raisins, and bourbon. It is still a bit sweet. Cheers!

Awesome! Curious to see what kind of willpower I'll have with my remaining 6's and 7's. Patience is not on my short list of virtues.

Bull & Bush Royal Oil '22 BA Strong Ale. Not much is known about this beer and how it’s made, which has probably contributed to the hype, but it has always been a big want of mine. I opened my first bottle with some friends, but this one is being savored by myself.
Crème brulee, Sugar Daddy candy, caramel, good amount of prune, plum, raisin, fig, some apricot, some leather, big vanillin from the barrel, oak tannin, bourbon spirit.
Does it live up to the hype? Sure does. The base strong ale is top shelf and is made for barrels. Speaking of barrel, the barrel presence is impeccable. This was awesome the first time I had it, but this bottle is just ridiculous. World class stuff!

Founder’s Sweet Repute bourbon barrel aged wheatwine with maple.
More of these kinds of things, less KBS with dingleberries and mayonnaise.

Hello Barleywinos!! I cross posted this one with the New England beer are you drinking thread. But this is Fox Farm out of Salem Connecticut and their Requiem Double barrel aged barleywine, a 15.5% treat that I finally decided to drink tonight.

    onto my review.

Sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle poured into my snifter. Bottle has been in my cellar since purchase at the brewery in spring of 2022.
The beer pours a dark cola brown to molassess color with no light passing through my glass. A fizzy beige head foams up about 0.5 cm and fades away almost instantly to nothing. There is some mild surface bubbling from rising carbonation, but it does not replenish the foam.
Aroma is noticeable form the time I pop the cap and is malt driven. A lot of brown sugar and molasses notes mixing with some bourbon and vanilla with some dark fruit as well. No hop presence, but there is a bit of fusol black peppery booze hinted at on the nose. Complex and appealing nose.
First sip reveals a medium body and sticky texture with spacious and gentle carbonation that is almost non existent on feel.
Flavor is malt driven as the nose. I get molasses and brown sugar, roasted malt notes, vanilla and bourbon with a bit of raisin mixed in for the dark fruit. Booze is present in black pepper bite, and a little warming after each swallow.
no hops anywhere and the warming makes this a sipping beer. Very complex and malty and quite a nice barleywine. Super glad to have tried this one!

2020 version. Already quite different, but so damn perfect. According to the September dates on different years, the 2023s should be getting packaged any day now.

Thank you all for the input/insights. A question, I have not seen/found here yet....I recently tried a barleywine that had a decidedly (DE.CID.ED.LY.) hops flavor/profile to it. I could not say it was a barleywine, rather a hop flavored "something". Is this a new style/variation? A bad attempt at it? Help me out here folks.

    Go Giants!!!!!!!!

Really good American style. Nice hop resin, but not crazy bitter, vanilla back bone, little tiny bit of coconut. Don’t get much Rye, but definitely good barrel presence. Won’t last long

My mistake. Description says English style. I really would never have guessed that with the hop saturation. Tastes great either way so who cares

Some American examples of the style are EXTREMELY hop forward, Bigfoot is a classic example so definitely not a new variation. Which barleywine was it?

English? Gratitudes are as 'Merican as they come, your taste buds don't lie. Don't let that one untappd aberration fool you. Every other listing for every Gratitude variety everywhere you look is American.
