    Next from Lost 40 Brewing...

Scotch Ale, 6.3% ABV (Again ha).

Pours an amber brown color. A small white head forms and recedes quickly. Light lace is left behind.
Aroma is dark and sweet baked breads. Dark fruit of cherries and plums. A nice simple malty aroma.
Taste wise, again, that baked dark bread. Dark sweet fruits like cherries and plums. A bit nutty and all around malty. The sweetness becomes a bit candy like after a while.
A medium to full body. Moderate carbonation, that is sticky and resin like. The sweetness boarders on cloying, but still a nice malty option to have when available.

This is probably something I would have enjoyed a lot more earlier on in my "beer journey" if that makes sense. As is, still enjoyable, always love the malt forward stuff. Though boarders on that cloying candy like sweetness, which detracts just enough. Still enjoyable for what it is though.

Overall score is 3.74, B territory.

Gratuitous puppy picture in the hotel, just cause. Moe has had a long hard day of travel in the car. Loves the big hotel bed

@jonphisher are we perhaps spoiled in calling Irish Dry's watery? Or is it a more common nature of the style or even abv?

I can think of two off the top of my head, Breckenridge and Murphy's ( + a local from Strap Tank) I wouldn't describe in this way.

As chilling of my newly acquired treasure is taking its sweet time, this Berliner weisse tempted me.

    Red Rock - Forbidden Fruit

    Canned 5.31.23

Purchased at local grocer for about $1.80

Poured at fridge temp into a snifter glass (chalice/goblet is the only one missing at this point in my quest)

Pours a initially pretty and opaque guava pink with a 1F pink head. There was some chunky and white particulate that settled quickly, I imagine it's ginger. 3.75

Pleasant ginger nose, similar to the sticky candy but with a unique tart accompaniment. 3.75

Bright and sour raspberry, immediately followed by ginger warmth and earthy spice. 3.75

Acidic with a strong gingery mixer-esque burn, light and puckering. Gingery tea warmth lingers after each sip. 4

Overall a unique sour that I've been hesitant to try due to the ginger, but it wasn't overpowering as I'd expected. Would certainly try again to finalize/solidify my opinion. 3.75

Now trying a Southern Tier Hazelnut Deluxe. My review: "Now me, I've never had hazelnut. But I smell definite nut, and strong. That and sweet, maybe semisweet chocolate. Thick but not sticky feel, taste is aroma +. A little boozy, not bad." Not poetry, but I'm feeling the effects at this point, lol. Ranks 53 out of my 120.

Not really sure @NorsemanOne I just think it’s one of those things that can vary by beer.

    Jacks abby Munich fest
    ...semi clear light amber/orange appearance
...medium carbonation with a medium body. Overall the feel is full, smooth and has an odd but sort of thick feel to me
...aroma is malt, some roasted malt, toast, dark bread and cereal.
..taste for the most part doesn't stray too far from the aroma. There is a little sticky sweetness but it is a positive addition to the flavor.
...overall this might be one of my favorites from jacks abby[IMG]

Based only on a previous four pack purchase of Masthead's Schwarzbier, I bought a four pack of this today. No regrets...

16oz canned 07/11/2023 poured into a straight sided hotel glass at fridge temp 5.7% ABV. The beer pours bright medium amber with khaki colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. Slight lacing. The aroma is mild with slight nuttiness and toasted bread. The taste is toasted, crackery malt over judious earthy hop flavors. Moderate lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Cleanly lagered. Overall, very good to excellent American Märzen.

    Cheers all!

This is one I've been excited to try, since I haven't splurged on chimay yet.

    Westmalle - Trappist Extra

    Bottled 11.24.22

Purchased from local grocer for $4 unrefrigerated

Poured at fridge temp into a big ol wine glass.

Pours a cloudy but brilliant golden with a fluffy foam cap. 4

Earthy honey and sweet florals, banana esters. Some light pepper. Honestly there is a lot going on and I don't think I'm adept enough to pick up on all of it, but it's clearly brilliantly done. 4.25

I feel taste follows. It reminds me of a gentle version of a favorite Tripel of mine, minus the clean Belgian Candi Sugar. Initially banana and yeast, joined by pepper and earthy near woody notes, and light fruity ester finish. 4.25

Frothy and full bodied without being heavy or filling. Mild biting carbo that softens out very quickly. 4.25

Overall it's an experience of a beer and one I'll keep coming back to, to learn and appreciate more. I was expecting a nearly clear body, but I suspect the cloudiness of mine was due to improper merchant storage 4.25

Great divide Salted Caramel Yeti, 9.5% ABV; 4.34 overall

Pours an effervescent ebony with a thumb+ of mocha colored head. Above average head retention & lacing

    S: Coffee, cocoa, caramel

T: Follows the nose, some dryness/roastyness as well up front, plus the advertised saltiness. Salted caramel, dryness, & coffee as this beer warms up, along with cocoa & dark chocolate. Finishes with a little dryness, lovely salted caramel & a kiss of dark chocolate

MF: Pretty chewy, firm carbonation. Carbonation smooths out as this beer warms up, warming

I really enjoyed this, would happily buy this again. If everything was on par with the taste, this would be an A+ beer

Classic, somewhat malt skewed, but great tasting WCIPA. So easy to drink

Possibly my only beer today, but it's still early, so we'll see. This is Irish Coffee Stout from Left Bridge Brewing .
Canning date unknown, but it was at least a few years ago.

Appearance is pleasant enough, if slightly unremarkable. Dark body with a short-lived tan head that receded to a spotty cap. Aroma is rich and chocolaty with just a faint hint of coffee. The taste is the reverse of that. Much more coffee and roast from the initial sip through the finish. Nice full, creamy mouthfeel.

Overall, this is a solid stout that I'd gladly have again.

From late last night. This was good. Thin Man Helles.

Pours a surprisingly dark copper gold moderate head that dissipates to a thin film fairly quickly.

The nose is light cereal, grassy hops and a very faint apple note.

Taste follows nose closely, with the apple thankfully absent. It’s very Helles in taste despite being so dark in appearance.

This is medium bodied and well carbonated.

Despite the odd colour, the taste was all Helles. Good stuff from Thin Man. Cheers!

Gose Fumee from Piggy in France. Enjoying at Ammutson in Vienna with @WunderLlama. Terse because I'd rather talk.

Clear, slight haze, no head. Smell is light smoke, nutty, with lemon.

Taste is interesting. Slight salt, lemonade sweet tart, definite umami smoke.

Mouth feel is thinnish and slick, still. Overall...more interesting than good, but not bad.
