Sure. Just like the cigarette companies could follow a 1st time smoker for a year and determine their products are safe because no one died…

Holy straw man argument. These situations aren't even remotely similar.

Ezekiel Sesame bread dude. Amazing stuff. No allergens. No soy. Non gmo. I mean it’s a $7 loaf of bread you gotta keep refrigerated but it’s super clean stuff and worth it

I guess I was wrong about more pesticides. The GMO’s are produced to be bug resistant. So if the bugs don’t like it, well…..

The effort to eat organic/non GMO is pretty well fruitless for the average American household. The market actually plays on these terms now. The "non GMO" tomatoes are more expensive than the regular one. The term has become a reason to inflate prices. With regards to beer? No, I don't care. 90% of what I eat from the store contains a GMO from one source or another. I'm not going to let my beer be the hill I die on when it comes to trying to live a healthy lifestyle. Seems fairly counterintuitive.

Would anyone like an American Spirit cigarette?

Blame the biotechnology industry that has tried so hard to muddy the waters in an effort to avoid the reality that their modified crops have not been subjected to any clinical trials. They have acted in a way that should cause scepticism in any thoughtful observer.

Otherwise I agree with you. Yeast and bacteria are the safest targets of genetic modification for consumption because their genome is very well understood and their molecular output can easily be tested in a closed environment over thousands of generations quickly.

There are still philosophical arguments about how much we should be interceding into the code of life, but the reality is that that ship has sailed.

True, and I don't oppose the need for regulations and further testing. I just think that treating these yeast companies and the breweries that use their GMO products as if they're trying to trick or potentially harm consumers without presenting all the facts is wrong and misleading.

It absolutely has. In the most non "overtly political" way possible, look at all the untested chemicals the government has asked us to inject into our systems in the past 4 years. It will certainly take several generations to see what the outcome of that will be. As I stated in my prior response, I don't think my time is well spent pondering how I can make my alcohol consumption part of a healthy lifestyle.

Very good stuff. I've had the 3 varieties that are available here. The purple bag is a cinnamon flavor if memory serves.

Could be the meat glue in your chicken nuggets, aka transglutaminase, “TG enzyme,” “enzyme” or “TGP enzyme”.

    https://www.rd.com/article/meat-glue-ingredient-youre-eating/

Try stopping at a local deli for homemade chicken soup or possibly a prepared chicken next time and see if you notice a difference.

Meat glue is banned in Europe, but of course legal here in our dystopian cesspool.

    Question: Do I care.
Nearing the end of my 72nd lap around the sun and having left kidney removed due to stage IV renal cell carcinoma and that Lagunitas Maximus is one of my favorite IPA's, my answer is no.

My friendly, good natured surgeon recommended I quit alcohol, I asked if an occasional beer was gonna kill me. "Probably not", he replied.

That being said, my lovely bride has tried to have me on a healthy diet the last 1/4 century, but happens.

Too many people, not enough arable land and too many chemicals, scientists say mother earth can handle 4-5 billion of us, not the 8 billion and counting. Be careful out there.

I've probably eaten tons of fish and other creepy things in my life, but for some reason I haven't grown gills and a tail yet. On the other hand, if consuming GMO yeast will teach my body to produce endogenous beer (or at least In vitro), then why not, what's the harm in that?

Unless/until there is evidence that anyone anywhere has been harmed by GMOs used in the production of beer, no. If such evidence were to come to light, still no. I'm too old to worry about stuff like this.

@afrokaze can you share your sense of how wide spread use of these modified yeasts are? Also, are there varieties on the market to do things other than enhance thiol production? You mentioned diacetyl in an earlier comment, but I wasn't sure if that was related to existing yeast varieties or just an example of how well understood yeast metabolite pathways are

ETA: Don't mean to single you out, but I know the folks you work for are pretty active in staying on top of the last technologies and techniques for making flavorful beer
