Founders Oktoberfest German Style Marzen. 6% abv, 20 ibu's. Sweet malt, earthy, and a touch of alcohol on the aroma. Flavor is a tad on the sweet side. Some earthiness and a feint bitterness on the finish. A little too sweet for my liking.

Ok, since someone decided to meet up for a happy hour with an old acquaintance, I get to see how once highly sought out hazy IPA producer Aslin handles a Festbier (they also have a Märzen on tap, which I might try):

Golden body with a definite light and evenly distributed haze. Honey bread in the nose along with a little unripe banana (could be a false impression with the nice breeze outside here). Taste has a nice malt flavor - bread with a golden honey butter crust (not meant to indicate diacytel) with a little sweet orange zest sprinkled in. It lingers on the sweet side for the full taste but has a neutral to dry grass finish and linger. I enjoy the malt flavor, but want this the balance a bit more quickly, which is a bit of a nit I am picking.

    Another old favorite, Paulaner Festbier.

This one really walks the line between a Helles and a Festbier, but Paulaner does a great job keeping it just the right side of strong to be easy drinking.

    Athletic brewery oktoberfest.
Very funky beer, not bad for an na version of an oktoberfest but to me there's a black tea flavor thats odd[IMG]

Damn, wish we still got Andechs in my state. How does it compare to the usual suspects (Ayinger, Paulaner, Hacker Pschorr, Spaten, etc)?

Well, it's a Festbier, so certainly different than Ayinger, which is arguably the best Marzen if you can find it fresh (the ones I saw this year were February so I skipped). But I think it is simply better than every other Festbier I have had - much smoother, creamier (which I don't usually get from Festbiers), and with more malt depth to it.

Zero gravity oktoberfest. I think it must be me as I taste a dryness I dont remember with this one. Still very drinkable [IMG]

Okay, here is one that is a lot more limited in distribution, as the brewery (Castle Danger) is like 45 minutes from Duluth. Thr maple syrup is a nice touch.

I'll chime in with a Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest.

Kinda festbier-ish, I guess. Weirdly reminds me of a hoppy AAL.

    Good evening BA
I believe I have a new-to-me oktoberfest for every remaining day of this tasting.

    West Side Oktoberfest
12oz can stamped 07/06/23 poured into a mug at fridge temp 5.2% ABV 22 IBU per can. The beer pours bright, light copper tinted amber with khaki colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and uneven layer leaving streaks of lacing. The aroma is mild with toasted malt, slight toffee and earthy hop notes. The taste is lightly sweet toasted, nutty malt with moderately bitter herbal hops winning the second half. The mouthfeel is thin bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Cleanly lagered. Overall, not enough malt depth to be transcendent as a Märzen, but infinitely drinkable. If this were available locally and I had a keg setup, this would be a prime contender for fall house beer.
