I'm glad I bought a single. I'd get bored with 6 of these.

I called it a pre-prohibition lager. Reminds me of Anchor California Lager, actually.

Erdinger oktoberfest is up next. Not my favorite but the malt is close to perfect imo[IMG]

Never had that beer, but thinking about some of the throwback lagers around here, yeah "pre-prohibition lager" seems fitting.

Goose Island Oktoberfest. Notes of mild caramel & cream, plus faint acorn/autumn leaves & a hint of brown sugar. Redolent of all things autumn.

    Sierra Nevada - Oktoberfest

    Canned 8.1.23

Purchased at the dabc for $2.09 (dumb price)

Poured at fridge temp into a dimple mug

Pours clear darker golden with some amber tints and a generous 3F head. Settled down into a mid ring and cap. 4

Hop punch is the first thing that came to mind. Pungent, clear and clean distinctly noble/earthy. 4

Big biscuit and earthy hops. Some light bread crust and hint of pepper. 4

Body is a sweet spot, I think the 6% abv lends toward a just above medium body that has a touch of chewiness and heft. 4.25

Overall this was one I thoroughly enjoyed, and makes me nearly reconsider my preference of märzen. 4

Which was your favorite of the Jack’s Abby beers?

    Really good question.
    1 fest of both worlds
    2 Munich fest.
    3 copper legend oktoberfest.
But...if push comes to shove I think I would pick Munich fest as an overall great beer to have in stock for the fall. Fest has more nuances but Munich had a great malt profile.

Did you get a chance to try the JA collab? I'm curious about which one would you like more.

Besides their IPLs, what JA lagers do you think have lots of hops?

Tried this first a month ago when it was released. Another one today — nice and clean, but somewhat one-dimensional.

One more for tonight. One of the best if not the best American festbiers.

Unfortunately no…when I saw your posts about that beer in some other thread I wondered the same thing.

Thought it would be a neat comparison but sadly seems like none of the collab made it to distro here.

Try their “lager locator” again if you haven’t recently. The beer took a while to hit my area.

I would say that the majority of JA beers I have enjoyed were either on the bitter side for style, had a bigger hop presence than average, or both.

Blood Orange Wheat, I felt, was a bit bitter for a Fruit & Vegetable Beer. Galaxy Bräu and Citra Bräu stand out as being a bit over hopped, which is common in single hopped beers. Lagers of the World:Australia was high on the hop flavor/bitterness scale for an AL in my book.

I am not complaining, I think JA set the bar for IPLs and of course Baltic Porter-as far as USA versions go. Cheers.

Today's Oktoberfest experience is Spaten Oktoberfest. This beer has an Enjoy By date of 10/23 and I think German brewers typically allow 18 months before being outdated, so this beer is now 17 months old. I've never had this beer, so I don't know what to expect, more specifically what a fresh version tastes like. Maybe I'm biased because I know how old this beer is, but I think it tastes old. I think I can tell how it might have been, so I'm giving it a 3.75 rating.
