Fall or autumn as it’s called here is hitting us brutally this year. Chilly and gloomy, pouring rain.

Time for pumpkin beers  or still the O-Fest craze.

Chimay for me as I can’t find either.

    Cheers!

Måneskin is not a Danish band, Italian actually:

Soproni IPA while avoiding a sudden downpour. Thoroughly mediocre.

    Good morning to all Advocates,
for this first part of the day, work done.
While waiting to go to lunch with colleagues, I share the excellent beer I drank last night and which I immediately took note of.

    :grin::grin:

Alder Beer Co. (Seregno, ITA) - MORRO BAY - West Coast Double India Pale Ale (7.5%)

The Masterbrewer of this brewery is one of the most recognized in Italy and beyond, Marco Valeriani.
His first historic creation was VERGUENZA, the Double IPA of Birrificio Menaresta, after which he became brigade leader at the Birrificio Hammer and has now opened his own brewery with tap room, Alder Beer Co.
Perhaps this is also why his beers are now priced quite high.
This is a 44 cl can (paid between €7 and €8 at the berrshop).
It's a Double IPA in which only German malts were used and hopped with American hops: Comet, Simcoe, Amarillo, Citra, Mosaic and Chinook CGX (the Cryo version created by Crosby Farm, Oregon - USA).
I really appreciate that there is all the useful information in the can:
    "Lot: L117E ; Canned on: 06/25/2023 ; Best before: 11/25/2023".
On the nose, lively aromas of yellow and summer fruit, but also of citrus fruits: yellow peach, ripe plum, pineapple, grapefruit.
Poured is a deep blonde, but very clean: almost completely transparent.
In the mouth, a full-bodied beer, in which the flavor contribution of the malts is completely absorbed and masked by a long and complex bouquet of fruit: pineapple again, a bit of passion fruit and a sweeter hint of peach, before everything is overshadowed by a citrus taste (grapefruit, sour orange) which ends the beer with a pleasant bitterness, which leaves room for the fruity taste on the palate and cleans the tongue.
Double IPA that is drunk with disarming ease.
Explosive and full taste, pleasant bitterness and of the right intensity (although for my personal tastes... even a slightly more bitter note compared to all this fruit would not have bothered me).
Overall, a truly splendid beer, full-bodied but totally characterized only by the taste of the hops.
A flaw that I found in cans from many craft breweries: the beer is a little too flat and a more lively carbonation would have helped.

Overall: Excellent: zero sick taste, only tropical fruit + Peach and citrus. Nice bitter finish. Maybe it doesn't quite get to Croocked Stave's JUICY WEST ( https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/25191/614452/?ba=Jack_14#lists ), but it's pretty close. I was very happy, despite the not very affordable price.

Slept in on my day off. Time to cook some chili!

DM Coffe and Chocolate seems like a good way to kick things off (the 2018 Narwhal is for the chili). Cheers!

Good morning/day BAs! Working on a kitchen project this morning, time for a coffee break - “Sauron’s Nightlight”, a “Robust Porter” by Brick & Feather Brewery, Turners Falls, MA:

Canned 2/23/23. A gift from a friend who traveled around New England this summer. Poured at 55°. Two fingers of tight tan head with a few rocks; ok cap retention; thin ring; spots of lace; black body with ruby highlights. Sweet caramel; fruity odd fusel aroma. Taste follows with mild bitter roast; solvent like taste as beer warms. Light body; watery feel; moderate minus carbonation; mild warming in mouth at only 7.3% abv. Overall, I don’t like; mild bitter roast linger and fusel aftertaste.

    4.0 | 3.0 | 3.25 | 3.0 | 3.0
    Score: 3.16 rDev -22.2%

One of the lowest scores I’ve given in some time, and for a porter at that…Cheers and have great day y’all!

Not quite autumn here yet (the autumnal equinox arrives on Saturday 9/23 here), but it sure has felt like fall recently - and some leaves are starting to slowly get some color!

    Time for a seasonal brew....

Industrial beer (Sardinian brand, but made in Heineken) in front of Sheriff Tiraspol - As Roma.
Nothing to say... Usual industrial lager, flat and soulless and which tries to delude itself with the wording "UNFILTERED" into offering a product different from the masses, without succeeding.
It's only slightly cloudier than basic Icnhusa ( https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/9663/18552/?ba=Jack_14#lists ) , with a slightly more evident cereal (corn) flavour.

Dodgy internet connections have meant no German adventure photos for a few days, so here are some from my back catalogue...

First up, Spezial Rauchbier Marzen, fresh from the source in Bamberg:

Followed by Lager from Brauerei Reichold, which was the last top on our Aufsess Beer Hike. The little area of Aufsess in Bavaria has the most breweries per capita in the world, and there's a 14-kilometer hiking trail that takes you to all four of them. We took a wrong turn and walked closer to 16, but we got there in the end!
