Howdy, at almost 31yo...I'm slowly becoming a beer connoisseur. I'm more of a hard liquor kind of guy. haha I was born and raised in Texas, big fan of Shiner Bock, especially the seasonal flavors! I've lived in Arizona for a few years as well and a huge fan of the Barrio Rojo. I just recently moved to Virgina now and was wondering of any recommendations out here, not a IPAs though.

Welcome to BA @OgChaser92. I can’t help you with the beers in Virginia though. I’m sure there are quite a few here who can. This is an interesting site for sure.

Hey @OgChaser92 welcome to the great beer culture that goes above and beyond those macro beers, a place where mostly everybody starts but soon abandons. Those factory beers have their place in beer culture, but I avoid those places. (I use them to boil brats, and sometimes for slug bait.)

To widen your experience, you've already taken a major step by deciding to avoid IPAs. (You'll probably change your tune eventually but you can deal with that later.) On the Main Menu above, click on BEERS, then Beer Styles. Read the description for each style and decide which intrigue you. Make a list of the popular ones in those styles and take it to a good beer store that has a large offering of single beers. (You don't have to spend the money for a 6-pack to make a decision if you like a beer and get stuck with 5 that you don't like.) Stick with just a few brands of beers in a few styles to get started, then broaden out as you learn. Just to have a larger selection, you don't need to look for Virginia beers to get started, but eventually you may decide to support those 'local' breweries.

Welcome to the BA site, and enjoy your beer journey.
