Thanks for starting the thread @Jack_14 . Recently returned from a visit to the lovely country of Italy, had a blast getting a grand tour with 50 new made friends! The peeps, food, wine, and history made this a memorable trip!
Onto today's first choice, a "Weizenbock" from Tired Hands. This one is made with Saison yeast, chocolate malts, grapes, and a percentage of wheat. It is actually a well executed beer, just the recipe is so strange. But hey, that is the beauty of brewing! Thanks @jzeilinger for the chance to try.
    Cheers!

I'm having an Elysian Punkuccino coffee pumpkin ale. It's only 4pm but hey, this has coffee in it. ... and coffee is the main feature to report here. Not that it is dominant but rather that it seems to be an excellent addition to a spiced pumpkin ale, perhaps softening the spicing and improving the aroma. I had this beer about 1 year ago and arrived at a different assessment including thinking it was better looking then but finding that "coffee is barely detectable, probably being masked by the "pumpkin pie spicing" component." This year, I find the coffee and spicing to have about equal strength in both the aroma and the flavor. Impressions change, but so do beers. Altered ingredients or outcome?

    1) Jever Pilsener (4.9%): An authentic German Pils with flavors of pale Munich malt, bread, and light honeyflower notes. Balanced.
    versus
    2) Einbecker Brauherren Pils (4.9%): An authentic German Pils with flavors of pale Munich malt, grains, cracker and yeast. Crisp and dry. (Mismatched the two beers blind)

    Winner:
    1) Jever Pilsener:
German Pils Battle. Two favorites and have done this side-by-side before at some point and I recall Einbecker came out ahead. Not easy to find either of these for me locally, especially Einbecker so it's a treat to get this one. It has some earthy and grassy qualities, but not as hoppy as I remember. I wonder if this one may not be fresh.
Jeaver was fantastic with hoppy floral and honey flavors. More flavorful and enjoyable, at least today.

Gneiss (Maine) Rocktoberfest, a German style Marzen. On draft at Novare Res in Portland Maine (one of the very best bars in the country, THE BEST for Belgian beers!)

    Appearance: golden amber, minimal head.

Smell: bread, yeast, baked goods. The smell made my mouth water!

Taste is less yeasty and bready than the smell suggests. Good malt backbone with a surprising amount of bitterness on the back end for a Marzen.

    Feel: solid, little effervescence.

Overall: a solid domestic Marzen, though more bitterness than the ones from Germany (only your taste buds can decide if that’s good or bad).
