Mildly early day leaving work, so decided to grab a late lunch and a beer on the way home. Three Floyd’s Broo Doo list as 2023 wet hop IPA.

Apparently no one else got off early today, as I seem to have the run of the place.

Boiler Brewing Co. -- Triple THAT! (I Can't Buy A Vowel!)
    Triple hazy India pale ale
ABV: 10.0%; pouring temperature: 45 °F; canning info: BF 8.27
    Source: Tavour

    4.03/5 rDev 0%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Pours an opaque, dirty peach color; thick, sudsy head, white. Tropical fruit smell, primarily citrus; orange, lemon, grapefruit; nearly hidden grain note. Big citrus and cereal grain taste; citrus phenol bitterness; a sense of oats and biscuit. Heavy body, smooth and velvety; some alcohol heat and dryness.

A pretty decent beer for a triple India pale ale. Nice complex and not overly boozy in the taste although there is a hint of alcohol warmth which doesn't detract from the overall character of the beer.

    1) Dovetail Helles (4.4%): A German Helles from Chicago with flavors of light citrusflower, honeysuckle, and pale Munich bread malts. Light and clean.
    versus
    2) Klosterbrauerei Andechs Vollbier Hell (4.8%): A German Helles with flavors of pale malts, earthy, grassy, German malts, and smooth honey. A relatively crisp and dry finish.

    Winner:
    1) Andechs:
German Helles Battle. Both are top tier, one from The States and the other from Germany. Dovetail has a one-point lead on Beer Advocate (91 to 90). Both have complex malt flavors, subtle honey and flower, yet still clean. I remember Dovetail being very crisp and dry, but today I thought it was slightly sweeter and more hoppy than the German version. So similar, I mismatched them in the blind test. I think that speaks quite a compliment to Dovetail as Andech may have one of the best and authentic German Helles made.

    1) Phase 3 DDH Cryptid Haze (7.8% canned 8/1/23): A NEIPA from Chicago with Galaxy, Nelson Sauvin and Mosaic for flavors of dank orange and grape. Slightly sweet.
    versus
    2) Phase 3 DDH Nonbinary Code (7.7% canned 8/16/23): A NEIPA from Chicago with Nectaron and Moteuka for flavors of lemon, lime, green grape, and passion fruit. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

    Winner:
    2) Phase 3 DDH Nonbinary Code:
Another Phase 3 NEIPA battle... and a good one @ChicagoJ. Cryptid Haze is slightly older, but very promising with Nelson, Galaxy and Mosaic. Has some dank orange and grape notes. Pretty decent, but would have like to see some Citra instead of the Mosaic to brighten it up a bit.
Clearly a winner in Nonbinary Code. Nectaron and Moteuka. Not the biggest fan of Nectaron and the peach flavor, but Moteuka is starting to became a favorite. Floral, zesty, and green. Exactly the kind of NEIPA I look forward to.

Hey BAs! Thanks @MadMadMike for 4001. Run complete here. Had to dodge a large moving gaggle of geese twice and change up my route. That was mildly eventful. Gotta watch out for those drakes. They'll flog yer ass. Really enjoying this Roundhouse Boom Lake Lager. It lends me to extrapolate a quote from Bill Kunz in a link discussing writing rules for a new style: “My wish is just that we didn’t have to explain [this beer] by some style, and that people would have the opportunity to make decisions about it based on drinking it,” Kunz says.
Boom Lake Lager is a bit more than a Lager. It is excellent say I. Redolent of New Galarus Spotted Cow or the retired Schell's Twins Lager but with more fruit. Cheers!
