I've already said this a couple times this season, but probably my last Oktoberfest review...

    Henderson Brewing Company Oktoberfest
    [IMG]
16oz can from a four pack stickered 09/27/23 poured into a mug at fridge temp 5.1% per can. The beer pours bright copper tinted amber with khaki colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and island. Minimal lacing. The aroma is mild with sweet caramel. The taste is semisweet toasted malt with nutty & toffee notes plus a spicy hint. Minimal bitterness. The mouthfeel is thin bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. There could be a hint of diacetyl hiding under the caramel malt, but it's not enough to significantly detract from the experience. Overall, ok.

Well, that makes 13 2023 Märzen reviews for a total of 115 and 8 2023 Festbier reviews for a total of 28. Still combined, they would be my 2nd most reviewed style.

    Cheers all!

Have a good football Sunday. Me and Julia checked out after a long weekend and went to the outlet mall and book store in CLT. Now we are at Legion brewing south park. There is a wood fire stove in here, so the food is going to kick ass. They have a brunch menu up. We are getting a pretzel and waiting for the lunch menu.

Legion juicy jay. Lasting head retention and soapy lacing. Great hazy. Aromas and flavors of big red grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, mango, apple, honeydew melon, berries, citrus rind, peppercorn, pine, cracker, toast, herbal, floral, grass. Large sized pine rind bitter finish. Medium carb and medium plus body. Balanced creamy bready malts and sticky resinous hop mouthfeel. long resinous lingering resin drying finish with mild astringency. Great mosaic, El Dorado, Cascade profile. Comes of way dank and resinous and not as juicy as expected. Aggressive west coast resins but delicious. 4

One of the best Bavarian pretzel I've had and queso like beer cheese was killer. The fact they give you a bowl of cheese says they know what's up.

Legion general zeragose. Lasting head retention and spotty soapy lacing. Amazing gose. Muted nose of sour lacto, lime, salt. Taste of tart lemon, sour key lime, citrus zest, green apple, white wine, sea salt, wheat, grain, agave, hay, straw, grass, lacto funk. Lt med tart/sour/tangy fruit/l finish. Crisp clean refreshing. Lt-med body and med high carb. Balanced grainy malt, lactic acid, and salinity in the mouthfeel. Tons of citrus vibrancy, no puckering flavors. One of the best and most balanced gose I've had. 4.38

A lazy Sunday watching NFL games. Daughter and grandsons coming over for dinner. My new beer is Tropic Slam from Boulevard.
The beer is a hazy orange color with a small, quickly receding, white head. No lace.
Aroma of citrus fruit and topical fruit.
    Very tasty. Orange, pineapple, guava.
    Slightly tart.
    An enjoyable beer.

Juicy jay smash burger and potato wedges. I'm full after the pretzels lol.

Legion grapefruit double juicy jay. Super amped up version of the base beer. Aromas and flavors of big lightly tart ruby grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, apricot, papaya, guava, mango, honeydew melon, berries, red apple, citrus rind, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, toast, herbal, floral, grass. Medium-high pine rind herbal bitter finish. Medium plus carb and medium full body. Balanced creamy bready malts and sticky resinous hop mouthfeel. Long resinous drying finish with minimal hop astringency. Mild increasing warmth and mild booze of 9.3%. Mosaic, El dorado, Cascade balanced juicy dank earthy hops and fruit flavors. Similar to many other west coast dipas. No complaints. 4/5

Okay, I'm cheating a little here, I've been drinking this beer on and off since Wednesday, but I am finally reviewing it today. I love the name and I love the can.

Purchased cold at a local store and refrigerated at home. Poured from a 16oz can stamped 08/04/23 to a dimpled mug at fridge temp.
The body is deep gold with an off-white head of tiny bubbles. Lacing is significant.
The nose is clean, malty and spicy.
The taste is similar with mild peppery spice notes. It's a little on the dry side for a Marzen.
    The mouthfeel is medium.
    I enjoyed this.

I've made my way through many of those cans this fall. I agree, a great coffee stout. Even the wife who isn't a big beer drinker loves it.

Golden yellow body, clear but with a dash of haziness; dense, slow-rising carbonation; big head, dense and creamy, rocky and sculpted. A fantastic bouquet of fresh picked berries; raspberry, sweet apple, and honey dew melon. Light, delicate taste; mild malt base with a bare touch of bitterness; thin yet enjoyable fruity esters. Medium body; lightly velvety.

The taste doesn't quite match up with the fantastic looks and aroma, but is still quite enjoyable and makes for a fine thirst quencher.

16oz can received by that sneaky @snaotheus

Brewers notes: Fresh IPA was the first Fresh Hop beer we ever packaged. Each year we look for the newest, tastiest hops on the planet, then we take them - fresh off the bine - and dump them into a beer. This year, we loaded up the hop back with 500 pounds of Fresh Centennial Hops from Crosby Farms.

With bright, classic piney Centennial and a little zesty Simcoe, Fresh IPA has been finely tuned and perfectly calibrated to go well with the end of summer, the beginning of the hop harvest, shorter days, longer nights, an increase in spiders and a decrease in sunburns.

From the bine, to the can, to your taste buds in just a matter of days, Fresh IPA is best consumed FRESH.

Hops: Crosby Farms Fresh Centennial, Simcoe

Malts: GW Premium 2Row, GW White Wheat, Rahr Pilsner

    Yeast: London II, ESB

Can poured in a pretentious beer glass produces a golden orange clear liquid with streams of micro carbonation capped by a two finger frothy white foam cap reminiscent of shaving cream, settles to a one finger solid layer with good lacings

    Aroma is pine, orange citrus

Taste is slight pine, not overpowering, tangerine citrus

Smooth. Clean soft, light , medium sudsing

    Good beer

    Good afternoon NBW
I had to enter this one in the database yesterday. Not enough love out there for Taxman. Hop Audit is a rotating single hop Belgian IPA. This time it's Amarillo.

12oz canned 08/08/23 poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass at fridge temp 6% ABV 50 IBU per label. The beer pours mostly bright light amber with off white head. The head recedes to a thin cap and leaves a web of lacing as it settles. The aroma is mild with caramel malt, citrus and a touch of sweet fruit salad. The taste is semisweet caramel malt with immediate peppery yeast. The fruit and bitterness are late to the party, but hang out on your tongue for a minute. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, good, although not my favorite of the series.

    Cheers all!

Curiosity satisfied. An easy-to-drink light beer with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Somewhat confusing that this is a Lager, but also a Kölsch, and it doesn't taste like one at least in comparison to Von Trapp Kölsch-style ale. I'd get more if it was easily available at a competitive price.

Good afternoon NBS/nbw and thanks @ChicagoJ for hosting this week.
Full disclosure, I have had this offering on draft at an event last year.
This bottled version was picked up locally.
I also want to thank @ChicagoJ for keeping the NBS clock running!
Its been a week here in WMass, some home projects underway, carpenters all week, then
Washer cashed in after 21 years, bless it. We moved the old behemoth out and then the new one and hooked it all up. A plus note #2 son was here overnight, and we were able to get #1 son on video this morning for breakfast. Almost like the old days.
Anyway todays offering is a variant I had at a release last year. Thrilled to see it here in bottles.

    Péché Mortel - Bourbon

American Imperial Stout | 9.5% ABV

Poured from a 12 oz bottle dated 2022/12/30 into the test glass
A - Deep dark and beautiful, a quick to exit tan cap starts things off. As the experience progresses, a steadily fed
thin tan veil rides the surface.
S - Espresso, tannins, vanilla, dark chocolate, char. And that's the begining. As the offering warms, a hint of the barrel treatment comes through with a stronger char presence.
T - Coffee forward, but a complete package, with the bourbon barrel in a supporting role, Bakers chocolate, hint of vanila, again char, and a roasty malt envelop.
M - Medium in body, bitter on the scale, but just off the center. There is a semi sweet thread that sings quietly in the background. Finish is quick and dry.
O - A superb offering, the base is of coarse a classic, this variant is extremely well executed, barrel presence is complimentary, and adds just enough complexity to create a fantastic offering.

Pours out a pale, clear yellow; excellent slow-rising carbonation; thick, spongy, white head, long lasting. Very pleasing aroma; light fruit and perfumy floral tones. Light, muted flavors; little base malt character; faint hop bitterness; slightly fruity notes. Medium-light body; light effervescence; light dryness.

Great looks and aroma but rather weak in the taste department.

My son finally came home from the brewery with my promised 2nd NB for the weekend. This is Super Potion from local Little House Brewing. This is a dry-hopped take-off on their Rare Candy IPA (one of my favorites from them). Unfortunately I think this is a step backwards from that. I'm too old to appreciate all the Pokemon references, but hey, if you're into that have fun.
    Citra and Simcoe BTW.

From a Crowler sealed at the brewery a few hours ago to a Nonic at fridge temp.
The body is a super opaque orange-juice color (no pulp).
On the aroma front we have must, must and more must. Citrus sneaks in every now and then.
A swallow brings the dank, but also citrus pith and berries. Finish is pretty dry for the style.
A creamy mouthfeel is medium for the style.
A little too much mustiness, but I would not refuse this beer.

Natural State Beer Company Marzen Amber Lager, 5.8% ABV; 3.77 overall

Pours an effervescent copper with 2 fingers of sand colored head. Average-ish head retention & lacing

S: Bready, a touch of toastyness

T: Follows the nose, a touch of brown bread, plus woody hops & some tea-like bitterness up front. Dry & toasty as this beer warms up, just a little brown bread as well. Finishes a little sweet ( brown sugar-ish ), dry with leafy hops

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation, pretty good balance, body thins a touch as this warms

Drinkable enough was hoping for a little more depth in the malt profile
