    Another fest-ish offering

    Templin Family - Das Dopplebock

    No canning date

Purchased from the brewery cooler for $6

Poured at 40° into a dimple mug

Pours a clear and deep amber with a sandy colored head. Persistent lacing and a thin cap once settled. 4.25

Dark fruitcake(stone fruit, sweet bread), dark but sweet malts, touch of earthy hops. 4

Grainy and sweet dark bread, nearing a cakiness quality and big heavy malt. 4

This was thicker at near fridge temp but as it warmed it thinned out a bit to a nice full body that was well balanced. Mildly dry finish with a touch of lingering hoppiness. 4

Overall it rounded very well, especially as it warmed up and felt less heavy. Looking forward to a post Ofest can again next year. 4

I'm not familiar with this brewery and got this beer out of curiosity. It is a well-balanced dessert beer with notes of chocolate and coffee, but not too sweet.

Pipeworks Brewing Co. Place in Space DIPA, 8.5% ABV; 4.15 overall

This version also has Idaho 7 Hops & Cryo Citra

Pours an effervescent & slightly hazed gold with a thumb of cream colored head. Great lacing & good head retention

    S: Tangerine, a little cattyness

T: Follows the nose, dryness & a little pineapple up front, along with some cakey notes. Nice cakey notes, a little green melon, pineapple & dryness as this beer warms up. Finishes a little dry with tangerine, pineapple, lime, a kiss of green melon & cattyness

MF: Medium body, moderate carbonation, nice balance

Solid, super drinkable DIPA well worth re-purchasing

I’m late to the party so I’ll call this one a LCI. This beer was sent to me by the awesome @Dimidiata and it did not let me down. For a beer to be 18yrs old and still drinkable blows my mind. This is a beer that I have been trying to replicate the base beer for quite some time. I have not come close yet lol. Without further delay here it is,
    [IMG] J.L.Lees and Co.
Aroma: Very fragrant of caramel and tobacco and leather. There is not much barrel to nose. The caramel smell is the most predominant.

Appearance: Like it should be for this style of beer. There is a lot of yeast floaties even with me trying to do a very careful pour. Little to no carbonation which is the way it should be.

Taste: The taste is nothing like smell. The barrel is very present still in the taste followed by the caramel. It is super sweet almost like a Whethers candy drop. The follow up/finishing taste was a dry weird flavor I couldn’t pinpoint until I learned the barrel was Peat Whiskey Barrel. Then I knew exactly what the “off” flavor was-Peat.
Overall: Very good for the age and would definitely drink again and not pass up in a bottle shop. I gave it a 4.0 on Untappd and I’ll keep that score here too. Again thanks @Dimidiata for the bottle!

Fidens is absolutely in the top tier, maybe (like everyone) slightly below Tree House. They've made some of the most memorable NEIPAs I've had this past year.

Thanks again @Roguer and Beer Advocate for keeping the New Beer Weekend open through the Columbus Day holiday here, Canada Thanksgiving Day to the north, or perhaps just a New Beer Monday for those of you without a holiday but are off or enjoying a cold one after your day at work.

Glad to enjoy beer two of a glorious New England dozen received from @Qu3st while it was still Summer, and which I will enjoy well into November. This is also a new to me brewery, one I've heard great things about and have wanted to visit or at least try for a while. I was given three from Notch, and will start with their standard.

    Notch The Standard

Can Notes: Can part of a large trade with Adam, @Qu3st on Beer Advocate, on August 19, refrigerated throughout his journey and since upon bringing home until this morning. 16 oz born on and canned 7/20/23 @11:20 AM, best by 11/20/23. #LagerIsLife

4.4% ABV, 12 Degrees Plato, Open Fermented, double decocted, naturally carbonated, Czech Pils. Lagered forever, session beer. Brewed & canned by Notch Brewing Company, Salem, Massachusetts.

Appearance: Initial pour is about half the can into a large Pilsner shaped glass. Slightly foggy light golden straw colored base, white head leaves a creamy soapy cover and ad hoc lacing. Consistent steady carbonation after the initial bursts post pours 4.25

Aroma: Salty cracker and bread, light lemongrass and pepper backing. Strong and pleasant, though bracing for salt. 3.75

Taste: Consistent with aroma, bread and sea salt / table salt, little to faint pepper and lemongrass noted in the aroma. Classic pilsner malt. (personal salt note - somewhat salty but fine). 4.0

Mouthfeel: Really light and easy drinking, lower or at the low ABV. A bit salty, dry and light to mild bitterness, carbonation prickly and long lasting, salty dry finish with pilnser malt chilling and hanging enjoyably. 4.25

Overall: This is a very enjoyable Czech / Bohemian Pilsner. A little lighter in appearance than expected but hits all the aroma and tasting expectations. Definitely a recommend on my end, which this was available here, but a solid Standard beer offering by Notch.. Thank you again Adam, looking forward to my other two Notch offerings! 4.25

My planned order for the remaining bounty is Tree House, Vitamin Sea, Round Head and a break to enjoy other OK cellar beers from other trades before at some point closing with two final bangers from Treehouse (a Barleywine and Scotch Ale)!

    Cheers!

    As promised

Heber Valley Brewing - Bavarian Munich Helles

No canning date, but new as of 9.30.23

Purchased from the brewery cooler for $3.25

Poured at fridge temp into a dimple mug

Pours crystal clear golden straw with a rich white foamy top. 4.25

Very fresh grainy malt, earthy hops and honey. I don't think it's terribly strong but it smells great. 4

Light cereal grains, accompanying malts. Soft sweetness balanced excellently by deeper grains. Lingering grassy and earthy hop oil. Brilliant aftertaste. 4.5

Light and refreshing. Surprisingly light/quickly fading carbo. Mild froth. 4

To be fair, this is my 3rd can of a 4pk, that I haven't devoted the time to reviewing yet.
Overall I'm not sure of the nuances between a helles and a festbier but I think this makes a great near Ofest beer and shared many similarities with my favorite Festbiers this season. I'd drink this all day, everyday if I could. 4.25

    Cheers friends!

    Cape may loneliner lager
    ...really clear pale gold appearance
...medium carbonation with a slightly thin body.
....aroma is its strongest quality. Strong hit of yeasty doughy bread, malt, slightly floral, and something that reminds me of earthy buckwheat honey.
...taste isn't as intense as the aroma. A very mild sweetness as well as some mild hop bite and otherwise it stays true to the aroma.
...this is usually a solid consistent brewery and this exemplifies that[IMG]
