Thanks to @NorsemanOne for kicking things off today! I'm drinking Dread & Breakfast from Revolution. Breakfast ale with coffee aged in bourbon barrels. Comes in at 15.88% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a nice thick black with an inch of quickly disappearing head.

Nose is spice, maple syrup, graham crackers, walnuts, coconut, cocoa powder, and some vanilla. What's odd is that I'm not getting much coffee or bourbon on the nose, although I will say that a hint of coffee comes through as it warms.

The taste is really nice and smooth. Sweet bourbon, vanilla, pancakes, maple syrup, baking chocolate, amburana, nuts, oak, anise, slight marshmallow, lightly roasted coffee, and caramel candy.

The mouthfeel is pretty thick and creamy. The aftertaste is a sweet chocolate cake frosting.

Hello! Thank you @NorsemanOne for the wknd thread. This little HIPA from our friends at Rogue is quite dandy. Glad I picked up a 6er. Cheers!

12 oz can canned 7/18/23 into a Becher glass.
L: Pours a glowing hazed apricot color with golden edges with a thin off white head that stays thin, low carbonation action, moderate random sticky lacing.
S: Tropical fruits, lightly sweet smelling, floral, cereal grains, a suggestion of very distant bubble gum, citrus zest.
T: Fruit salad, background caramel malts, a dash of rolled oats, light melon, a hint of lemon, light citrus zest, citrus pith in the finish. Not much aftertaste.
F: Smooth, gliding medium-bodied mouth feel with a glossy middle and a slick, clean medium-length finish.
O: A very easy drinking simple HIPA. All tastes blend and mingle well staying centralized. Nice clean, unchallenging finish. Interestingly mild at 54 IBU with superb taste and feel. It is excellent in its style.

No eclipse for us, gray & cloudy during that window.

Flyway Brewing Early Bird IPA, 6.5% ABV; 2.62 overall

Pours a chill-hazed amber with a thumb of cream colored head. Nice head retention & lacing, the only thing they got right on this beer

    S: Malty. toasty

T: Toasty, grassy, a little dry & a touch of woody hops up front. Sweet breadyness, grassyness & dryness as this beer warms up; a trace of pine late. Finishes dry tastes like 3 day old unsweetened ice tea, lots of astringency

MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation, skews too sweet. Carbonation gets more prickly as this warms up

I would've guessed this was an amber ale, just doesn't scream IPA to me, a dud to me. No freshness dates, so no slack from me. Ended up being a drain pour

Worth it. There isn't a ton of depth of flavor, but what's there is enjoyable. And you don't have to worry if it goes down fast like you do with an 8% dopple.

    Next up

Park City Brewing - Powder Buoy

A piece of UT lore I was previously unaware of. Probably because I haven't been skiing in 9 years.

"What on earth does Kauai have to do with fresh pow? When there’s a big wave at the NOAA weather buoy off Hawaii, we see snow in Park City two weeks later. Don’t believe it? Tell that to the thousands of Powder Buoy believers who plan their ski days by it."
    Canned 2.9.22

Purchased from the brewery cooler for $2 (which makes the canning date all the weirder)

Poured at fridge temp into a trumpet Pils glass

Pours a hazier than I'd imagine golden with a vigorous head. 3.5

Tropical hop aroma and white bread. 3.5

Taste is bready and crust and more herbal hops than tropical as advertised. 3.5

Mildly sharp carbo and pleasant hoppy aftertaste 3.5

Overall I'd drink it again, curious if the tropicals are stronger in a fresher can which I'd think would make for a fairly unique Pils. 3.5

    Cheers!

Deep, dark mahogany red body, clear pour, opaque in the glass; thin head, khaki colored. Fantastic smell; roasted grains, dark pitted fruits, tobacco, charred oak. Richly sweet flavor; figs and dates; tobacco; black licorice; brown sugar; low-key whiskey flavor. Heavy body; viscous and sticky.

A unique take on blended barrel aged beers. The beer oozes richness and depth with a deep yet very approachable bourbon undercurrent.

social Project Brewing Take Me Home Tonight Imperial Pastry Stout, 10.1 % ABV; 4.0 overall

Pours an effervescent ebony with a thumb of mocha colored head. Average lacing & head retention

    S: Chocolate, caramel & coconut

T: Toasty coconut, chocolate, dryness up front, a hint of coffee. All of the above as this beer warms up, some vanilla coming through too. Finishes with toasty coconut, chocolate & little dryness, plus caramel

    MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation

A solid Imp Pastry Stout, flavors all seem natural, a sipper for sure. Had higher hopes, but don't think much of coconut, chocolate cookies of that ilk either

    Hello NBW.
I had a decent IPA from Second Chance (BTW-love their focus on helping our 4-legged brethren)

    Dawg Daze
    Born N Bred 8/23/23

Pretty golden liquid capped by a bountiful white fluff. Slight lacing, good retention.
Nose is definitely a mix of citrus (grapefruit rind, lemon zest), grass, a hint of weed and pine.
Flavor follows the preamble of the nose but mixes in a hint of fruity berry notes. A little more weed comes in as well. Nice.
Mouthfeel is on the lighter side of medium, nice level of carbonation, finish is slightly dry in its bitterness.
    Overall, pretty good.

Good evening all you beer geeks!
I am going to be reading your posts with greater interest than normal as I have a cold (or something like that) and drinking a beer right now doesn’t seem like such a good idea. So I will enjoy them vicariously through you all.
    Have a great weekend all!

Pours an effervescent gold with a pinky of cream colored head. Great lacing & solid head retention

S: Nice pineapple & coconut notes, plus lime

T: Follows the nose, green melon, peaches up front. More green melon, dryness & lime as this beer warms up, a little pineapple too. Finishes dry with hints of green melon& peach & just a kiss of tangerine/lime

    MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation

Easy to drink, a good cold DIPA, not wild about Cold IPAs in general though

Wow! I was about to contact you and discuss meeting up during my visit to Seattle in January! I guess it will have to wait until I'm in "upstate" New York (quotes are for your wife). I have a great friend in Rochester, and I was born just outside Buffalo (that big city in Canada that rhymes with Boronto). I hope you are enjoying the new home!

Ore Dock Brewing from Marquette, MI Bramble on Rose. 8.0% ABV Belgian Golden strong ale. Brewed with red raspberries and rose hips.

I picked up this 12oz can up from @Victory_Sabre1973. he got the can from his friend Tim who bought it on his road trip around Lake Superior last summer if I remember correctly.

Look: slightly hazy golden body with some fakes/sediment chunks that very slowly settle to the bottom. A ok white head that leaves some lacing.

Smell: Raspberry and rose, sweet malt and that Belgian earthy yeast smell.

Taste Follows the nose and in that order. But there is a flash of floral honey sweet malt just after raspberry and rose in the beginning. The Belgian taste comes out more as it warms. Slightly sweet overall.

Feel is rather thick and syrupy.

An interesting beer. But not really for me. Not something you drink more than one can of at a setting. But I wouldn’t mind having another can in fridge.

    Oktoberfest - 3 Sheeps Brewing - Sheboygan, WI - Marzen - 5.5% ABV

This is one hell of a well rounded beer. The body is so smooth, creamy, and full. There's just a ton of cereal flavor in here, as well as caramel. I am totally digging this beer this morning. Should I be surprised they made a good Oktoberfest/Marzen? No, and I'm not. I'd be more surprised if it sucked.

From a can canned on 7-5-23

This beer pours a very pleasing looking dark amber color. The beer is clear and I see small carbonation bubbles rising in the glass. The head that forms is off white, or more tan in color. Frothy looking at 1 finger, the head doesn't last too long. Once the head dissipates, there's just a bit of lacing on the glass.
The aroma is so full of cereal grains. It is almost like opening up a bag of cheerios, and just breathing it in - without the crazy amount of sugar in that cereal.
Taste - This beer is almost creamy tasting right away. This creamy flavor turns right away to the malts. So much cereal flavor in this beer and I get notes of caramel as well. There's a slight hop bitterness on the back that just rounds this beer out.
Full bodied, and quite smooth feeling. I mentioned creamy earlier, it's more of a feeling than a flavor.
This is a very delicious and well made beer.

Todd, you're also right on how that beer you tried earlier got to you. My friend Tim picked up a 6 pack for me while in Michigan this summer after his drive, with his wife around the north shore of Lake Superior.

I will be back for more today. Cheers all.

Welcome one and all to New Beer Sunday #973! Back with the second of two Tree House offerings. This one is listed as a Dry-hopped New Zealand Pils. What does that mean? Let's find out.

    Tree House Ruby Bay

Can Notes: Obtained August 19 via trade with Adam, @Qu3st on Beer Advocate. 16 oz, can stamp is Destination Unknown Summer 2023. 5.0% ABV, Dry-hopped New Zealand Pils. Brewed by Tree House Brewing Company, Charlton, Massachusetts.

Perhaps our affinity for the New Zealand waterfront is born out of our travels along our home states stunning coastline. Something feels off when we’re more than a days travel from the world's edge, where the land dissolves and time is measured only in the tides. A stones throw from the hop fields, situated between Motueka and Nelson, we found ourselves in awe of the idyllic beauty of Ruby Bay, a small alcove in the Tasman sea.

Ruby Bay is a modern pilsner brewed with a blend of New Zealand-grown hops! Nelson, Riwaka and our newest infatuation, Peacharine are on full display in this crisp Pilsner. Ruby Bay carries ebullient notes of citrus, lime, sauvignon blanc, and ripe stone fruits, a truly inspired addition to our growing line of dry hopped Lagers. A perfect beer for a wandering mind and an adventurous spirit, we hope you enjoy it in good company and good health.

Appearance: Slow pour of about half the can into a flute pilsner style glass. Crystal clear faint straw base, mild slow carbonation, creamy bubbly bright white head leaves a creamy fill on top and soapy patches of lacing in its wake. 4.25

Aroma: Getting some of the traditional malt, but in many ways more like a "modern" IPA, with the Nelson sauvignon blanc white grape leading, followed by lemon grass and fainter notes of tangerine. Medium plus strength, a bit higher in enjoyment. 4.0

    Taste:
Getting a different take, with stone fruit leading, but the sauvignon blanc flavor saying they are still here. Getting faint remnants of traditional pilsner malt, light cracker, faint salt and pepper. Would say this is a light Pale Ale if the contents weren't disclosed. 4.0

Mouthfeel: Light body, crisp and clean, faint lightly prickly carbonation, the creamy and gentle drinking overall. Drinks below the light ABV. Sweet with light dryness. Stone fruit / tangerine finish. 3.75

Overall: Two for two this weekend in terms of a unique take, at least for me, under two traditional styles. I'll leave it to the experts in terms of categorizing this as a Pilsner, but my experience is this is a blend of a light pale ale and pilsner, capturing the better aspect of a pale ale, while neglecting the traditional Pilsner side. I am enjoying this take, but would definitely say this far exceeds any Pilsner take, modern or otherwise. That said, this held up well and is an enjoyable journey. 4.0

I have two more Tree House beers but they are high ABV and will be enjoyed in the Winter. Will return next week with two from a new to me brewery, Vitamin Sea.
