Flipside Red IPA - starting to show it's age a bit.

 

1) Phase Three DDH Double Pixel Density (8.0% canned 8/31/23): A NEIPA with DDH Citra cryo for flavors of orange citrus, orange flesh, some sweet creamsicle notes. Juicy and smooth.
versus
2) Phase Three DDH Bokeh Orbs (7.7% canned 9/21/23): A NEIPA from Chicago with Citra and Cashmere for flavors of earthy orange citrus with some notes of pineapple, lime, and melon. Very smooth. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Winner:
2) Bokeh Orbs: Another Phase Three NEIPA Battle. Basically Citra vs. Citra + Cashmere. Double Pixel Density is an excellent showcase of DDH Citra hops. Great DDH flavors and leans sweet, which causes the Citra flavor to fall off pretty quickly with age.
Bokeh Orbs is seems like the same IPA but with the addition of Cashmere. Not a hop I usually see in single hop IPAs so less familiar with the flavor. Very similar to Pixel Density but has a lemon/lime and a slight pine bite to it. Could also be that it is a few weeks more fresh. In any case, enjoying the addition of Cashmere as it adds a brightness to the IPA. Both are excellent.

Next up is a VooDoo Haze Glare IPA, 7.7% and quite tasty. I seem to get a Nelson hop like taste on the back end, from a mix 12 pack.

OMB Captain Jack Pilsner. Two beers from this brewery are among my favorites: Copper and Mecktoberfest. The other two I've tried, this one and the Fat Boy Baltic Porter, are pretty average.

I've been learning this one:

 

Venn Brewing Co. Pils (5.6%): A Czech Pils from Minnesota with flavors of German Pilsner malt, bread, some lemon hop flavors with a dry yeast.

Another Czech Pils here. You'd have thought @beergoot poured it. Great buttery bready and yeast flavors. Milldy sweet, but still a strong hop balance. It definitely has the Czech flavors, but also hopped up like a German Pils. I've had this one a couple of times and it's been more enjoyable each time. Not a big brewery, but I've had a number of lagers from them. This is quickly becoming one of my favorites. So if you're in The Cities and looking for an upcoming brewery, this could be a taproom to visit.

Ranking of the Czech Pils today:
1) Venn Pils: Authentic Czech flavors, but balanced by a German hoppiness. Not perfectly to the style, but that Czech malt and German hop balance works perfectly.
2) Junkyard Uncle Chuck's Czech: They ramped this one up since last time. Tons of that buttery and biscuit flavors, probably some diacetyl. Seems like they were trying to make it like Urquell. Very enjoyable and authentic flavor.
3) Wabasha Czechin' In: A decent effort, but you'd probably have to tell me this was a Czech Pils, because I don't know that I could tell it from an American Lager
