That is definitely weird that Petaluma and Chicago brewed it on different dates! That was not the case in previous years. I'm not entirely sure what the brand is doing.

That may explain why they didn't have a big announcement this year...

I remember a while back around this time of year I saw a single sixpack sitting on a shelf and grabbed it thanking my luck to have found the last one. Got home and opened it up and it was from the previous year. Didn't age too well

Wait - they brew it on the 5th and bottle it the following day, on the 6th? I don't know... Doesn't leave much time for fermentation.

Anheuser-Busch, which first used the vague and just plain stupid "born on" dating terminology (since dropped) for the day the beer was packaged, not brewed.

Okay, who knows how to translate the brewer's code?

Being in Chicagoland, I imagine my BY was brewed locally, but never assume.

BTW -- I noticed the fine print on the label: the yesterday refers to the hop harvest being delivered to brew within 24 hours, not bottling-to-shelf.

And oh yeah, had a bottle today and I really like it. But it's not an APA.

And why so hazy? C'mon, are brewers getting that lazy?

I picked up a six-pack at my local Retail Beer Distributor earlier today. I just check the Lagunitas beer finder and my store was not listed but there were 4 other retailers in the area listed.

I will be drinking the first bottle of that pack later tonight as I watch the Phillies beat the D-backs.

    Cheers!

Landed in my area this week. Seeing about 4 places within 10 or so miles of home that got it per the wonky Lagunitas beerfinder. Looks like my preferred local got at least 9 cases. Eight on the floor and one broken down into 6ers. $13.49/6er ~$46/case.

Bottle date is 100223 which differs from the standard Lagunitas dating unless they changed to a standard dating somewhere along the way (been a while since I has a Lags brew). It isn't often that you can find a nationally distributed beer bottled and on the shelf in about two weeks-especially in the Southeast PA distribution black hole haha. Date is in the standard, nearly unreadable, Lagunitas black ink on dark brown bottle. I remember the 2019 version having a contrasting yellow ink on the brown bottle. Hoping Willettized gets similar distribution at similar pricing next month.

Aroma is unhinged. Powerful pineapple and citrus fading into pine and resin. Taste follows. This tastes closer to the 2019 version when I had it for the first time. Think they put (the divisive) Sabro hops in this beer in the 2020 version as well as in the replacement brew Contents Under Fresher.

Get your hands on this one if you can. And enjoy. Cheers!

My local just tapped a keg. Fresh Hop season is starting to wind down here in the PNW, but there are still a few late season gems available. I'll be curious to see how BY stacks up against some of the local fh heavyweights we have out here in the NW.

I would be interested in hearing your thoughts.

Spoiler alert: I will be discussing this year's version of Born Yesterday later today in the NBW thread.

    Cheers!

How are you guys searching it on the beer finder? I don't see it listed on the available brews from the drop down selection.

I discussed my first bottle of Born Yesterday in today's NBW thread:

    The 2023 version

Today’s beer for NBW is the 2023 version of Lagunitas Born Yesterday Fresh Hop Ale.

This beer was bottled 10/2/23 so very fresh IMO.

    From the Lagunitas website:

    “Limited Release

    Born Yesterday

" Here for a fresh time, not a long time. "

Feat. fresh hops rushed from farm-to-brewery in under 24 hrs!

If we could bottle the smell of harvest time in Yakima Valley, WA, we would. Hell, we try every year! Today we get the next best thing: Born Yesterday. See, once hops are harvested, the flavor clock starts ticking’. So we rush a select bunch of whole-cone ‘wet’ hops on refrigerated trucks straight to Lagunitas. In less than 24hrs they arrive and immediately drop into this brew via a stoopid custom-built contraption, injecting all their precious aromatics. Special delivery indeed. Congratulations, it’s a beer!

    Beverage Specs

    Abv: 7.2%”

Served in my Spiegelau IPA glass”

    Appearance:

Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow with a one finger white head which dissipated fairly quickly. The photo below is from after a couple of sips.

    Aroma:

A complex combination of tropical fruit, dank and a hint of citrus.

    Taste:

The flavors follow the nose: a tasty combination of tropical fruit, dank and some citrus. There is a firm bitterness.

    Mouthfeel:

A medium body, some smoothness and an off dry finish. As the beer opens up there is some hop burn.

    Overall:

I think this beer is very good, I enjoyed drinking it.

This year’s version is not at the awesome level of past batches (e.g., 2016) but it is a worthy purchase IMO.

@JackHorzempa and I are on the same page regarding this beer. However, you must understand that the team who defeats the Milwaukee Brewers in the MLB playoffs usually wins the World Series. It worked for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2008. It does not favor them this year.

Out of curiosity, what's everyone paying for a six-pack of BY?

Trying it on tap. I get some fh aroma on the nose, and the beer is pretty dank on the finish (which is kind of odd). Not getting a lot of fh character on the palate.

While not bad, this is pretty run of mill when compared to the fh IPA's we see out here. It's not a beer I would order.

I was told it has not been selling all that well in the taproom (here at Belmont Station). The bartender told me he doesn't like it which probably doesn't help.
