Revolution Brewing (2023)

No hate for the Deep Wood releases (I think Deth Star is stellar, no pun inteded), but I'm most excited to take home 12oz cans of Cold Time tomorrow!

 

The beer is very good, but I gotta say and I'm of course bias, the can feels good to hold in your hand. There's something the look and colors with it.

 

Early reports on how the beers are tasting would be appreciated!

 

Drinking a Deth now at the pub. Butt load of barrel and not as sweet as last years are my initial thoughts.

 

Both positives in my opinion, good to hear.

Thundertaker variant is tasting like a boilermaker. Straight up shot of bourbon dropped in a regular Thundertaker. Good or bad? Who knows.

 

How deep into Saturday do the variants usually last? Couldn’t make it out today and it’ll be like 2-3pm by the time I’m there tomorrow.

 

*usually* you’d be way fine. I think the July drop was the last time something didn’t last into Saturday.

 

I enjoyed the thundertaker express a lot , definitely boozy but also great barrel character and very chocolatey. Pretty drinkable for the abv.
I had a hard time with cherry brandy vsor. Mostly got a dry woodiness, and the body was lacking.
Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to try the other variants.

 

Coming back to this--

1) I'm neither a coffee guy nor a coffee stout guy (you read that right), so I really felt you on the "I can't taste coffees well" thing.

2) I hate to say it, but I think this might be 2 in a row where the coffee variant is my favorite, and that NEVER happens.

All the variants were great (holy hell was the Cherry Brandy VSOR rich and silky), but that 2X really wowed me. Also, Thundertaker Express should be illegal at 18%, I had to read that abv a couple times to process it.

I disagree. Started with PXDT to make sure my palate was clean and it’s certainly not the worst deep woods variant I’ve ever had. To me it just comes across as an oaky, drier deth’s tar.

 

After taking the time to sit with these (and go back for seconds/thirds on some) here are my rankings:

1) Thundertaker Express
2) PXDT
3) Cherry Brandy VSOR

42) 2 x Cafe Deth

Not to say 2x Cafe Deth is bad, I just need someone to explain me the difference between this and Supermassive. And somehow, I feel like I enjoyed Supermassive more.

My ranking of the variants from this round was:

For some reason I thought season ticket holders were going to get a complimentary Cold Time 6 packs when picking up (not sure why, might just have been wishful thinking), but it was instead an Oktoberfest 6 pack.

Also, they were selling cases of the Oktoberfest for $20. Not bad for 24 cans! Not sure how long that will last, but just a heads up.
