Monkish (2023)

Just a quick FYI for NorCal people. Urban Roots taqueria "Cerveceria at the Shack" in Sacramento has 3 Monkish beers on Guest taps this month. Had the collab with Trillium, "Mettle Window", pretty good. They also had some HPB still on tap.

There was another non-BA stout released back in July as well, Flying and Falling. But that's been it for 2023. They haven't released a BA stout for sale since March 2022, which was TXXTH, and then also in 2022 I believe they released 3 non-BA stouts (JXLT, non-BA Little Twin Stars, and Spark the Brain). That's been it for stouts from them for the past 2 years.

Pretty wild how infrequently they make them given how popular they are with the fans. It's the only stuff they make still that always sells out day of. I understand BA stouts take time and a lot of space, and they are lacking on warehouse space, but they could easily crank out non-BA stuff more regularly. I'm burnt out on hazy IPAs, but I always still seek out their stouts.

 

It seems like another BA or even a DBA Little Twin Stars is about due based on Little Twin Stars being released in October of last year.

 

Would really love to see Monkish lean into their barrel aged strong ale program. Everything I've tasted from them this year at festivals indicates they are ready to compete in this area.

 

I saw that they had double barrel Ancient Future and triple oak Life Sized at some festivals. Anything else?

 

Mannnnn, we could only hope. A double barrel Little Twin Stars would be absolutely insane.

 

Those were the two I tried also at FWIBF and LABW. Both were great..

Yeah I’m after it tomorrow. Ancient future at the Long Beach festival this year was insane.

 

I talked to Henry at Dark Embrace Invitational back in March and he said his wife was pushing him to sell the Triple Oak Life Sized. Crazy, those bottles have been ready for almost a year now and he's finally getting to selling them

 

Really wanted those but could not justify the price.

 

Same … so split it by four with my bottleshare group … still crazy per ounce expensive but mentally softens the blow ‍♂️

I struck out too. Had it and as soon as I entered the shopify code it kicked me and said sold out. Weak

 

I’m going to be working in downtown LA for two weeks. Is there any good/bad time of the day or week to visit Monkish? I will have to Uber down there and would like to minimize time sitting in traffic, if at all possible.
