Seriously? I got nothing but peach, pineapple, and pine resin -- with only a vague touch of biscuit malt. And yeah, that dank, near onion character in the finish. Not heavy, so it didn't turn me off.

I wonder what the difference between bottle and keg is? How cloudy is your pour?

Also (gotta ask) how fresh is your palate, first beer?

LOL! Yes, first beer. In the keg version, the haze is very light. It looks like a WCIPA actually.

While this is my first beer of the day, I've been drinking fh beers virtually non-stop since late August. So my palate might be a bit jaded.

I do get some peach and pineapple, but I'm not getting any pine resin to speak of.

The citrus was much more prominent than the pine to me, but I got the pine right at the end of the first swallow -- before the dank finish.

FWIW -- my palate is probably on the opposite end of the spectrum from yours coming off Okto season -- nevermind German styles being my usual go-tos.

I love Oktoberfest beers and it hurts my heart that Oktoberfest coincides with fh season here in the NW. I've had a few fest beers this year, but nothing like I would normally have had when I lived back East.

LOL! Likely no recommendations from the bartender to the customers here!

I did pick up some dank in the bottled version (mostly mid-palate) but for me this beer is mostly tropical fruit.

I only know what four hop varieties were used to produce this beer (i.e., Simcoe, Citra, Mosaic, and HBC 586); it would be interesting to know the exact hop schedule.

On the Lagunitas website they aren't real clear here:

“So, how do these brew magicians brew with these fresh, sassy hops? Well, it’s a bit like a magician’s secret trick. Should they add them to the kettle? Or maybe toss them in the whirlpool? How about a hop cannon? (Okay, we made that one up.) The point is, everyone’s got an opinion, and they’re all pretty much hopping mad about it! And guess what? They’re all right!

The heart and soul of brewing is all about pushing the boundaries, getting creative, and celebrating the hop-tastic journey. This year’s hop harvest even saw brewers grabbing weed whackers to make hops dance in the brew. Yep, you read that right – we’re taking “gardening” to a whole new level!”

    https://lagunitas.com/story/fresh-hops/

On the six-pack carrier it states:

“Dropped into a Stoopid Custom-Built Contraption

This injects ‘em into the beer, capturing as much of their aromatic and flavor compounds as possible. Liquified hop harvest!”

But no details as to when the “contraption” is used in the brewing process. During the whirlpool? Dry Hopping?¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Cheers!

$13 here in the Chicago area -- my brother saw it for $11 just over the border into Wisconsin.

Was that at Woodman’s? Man, nothing is as cheap anywhere as Woodman’s it seems like.

    So a few big things:
    1. I noticed this Saturday but just cracked another but - this year's has already started dropping off a lot in aromatics and in flavor, so this 2nd sixer will be my last. It's changed significantly so that I think any impressions of this now is not the same beer I had a couple weeks back.
    2. I take back what I said. Apparently, even my Petaluma bottles are dated 10/2 so that means Illinois and Petaluma are both bottled the same day. But more importantly, they completely changed what "Born Yesterday" means. Previous editions of Born Yesterday were literally bottled a day before it launched. I know because many places in San Francisco would have it day one. But this year, they bottled it 10/2 and then launched it 10/6 and even then it was only at their brewery (with local distro the following week). So this just feels like they care less and less about the beer, which saddens me.
    3. For the PNWers (and even CA peeps, since a few of our brewers make 'em), I know what fresh hop beers taste like and quite enjoy them. I agree that BY doesn't actually taste like any of them, which to me makes them hard to compare. That being said, BY tastes like a very vibrant hoppy beer - the fruitiest of everything that Lagunitas makes. I'm not entirely sure if all the hops in BY are wet hops or if it's only partially wet/fresh hops? Either way, "real" fresh hop beers have a subtle mild flavor, and Born Yesterday was always very citrus explosion. So if you have a certain expectation, BY doesn't really fit that bill. But taken on its own merits, I actually think it's one of the best (if not the best) shelfie beers.

11.95 at our local grocer. I passed. I don't bother with lagunitas outside of willetized season anymore. Reason number 2 from @thuey , above, is a big reason why. They don't care anymore. Tony is still getting the carpal tunel worked on from counting his pay out and the Heineken team is likely focused on being the IPA at more venues globally rather than making good and interesting beer.

It’s true this beer falls off FAST! Not nearly as enjoyable 3 weeks out

How would you describe this beer at week 1 vs. 3 weeks?

Did you continuously store this beer cold once you bought it?

    Cheers!

Okay, I had a third bottle of this yesterday and have to say that I really enjoyed it. Bottled 10-02-2023, bought from a non-refrigerated stack at the local big box retailer, each bottle chilled for each sample.

It's a really nice, strongly hopped -- yet lightly bitter, ale that drinks nice for its ABV.

Admittedly, I'm not a true hophead -- but I enjoy and respect what American brewing brings to the table. I enjoy a good hop fix now and again, and this beer fits the bill.

All you fresh hop aficionados can call me out for my Okto Märzen obsessive compulsion next year.

still a great beer for the price but it lost alot of its fruitiness and herbal flavor and seems thinner to me now.

#3 hits to me and this question “ not entirely sure if all the hops in BY are wet hops or if it’s partially wet/fresh hops? “ My thoughts also it is fruity its good . The package says its Moisaic,Simcoe,Citra, HBC 586. Its good and a great value at $12 , One sixer was enough for me and i did enjoy it.

Yeah to me, the explosive citrus quality has now become extremely faint, leaving behind only a slightly bitter and faded aftertaste. It's almost like the beer suddenly became diluted with water.

Yup, don't dawdle and buy now. And immediately place those beers in the refrigerator to mitigate hop fade.

I purchased my six-pack last Friday (10/20) and immediately placed those bottles in the refrigerator. I had my first bottle that evening and I had the third bottle last night. With continuous cold storage that third bottle tasted exactly like the first.

    Cheers!

Yep, drinking one right now. If this has “fallen off”, it must have been an all-timer within a week.
