WTF? I was just there. Sittin’ at the bar solo. Lol. Left 20 minutes ago. At RiiP and enjoying Ian’s last brew with RiiP, Trippin’ with Tenma. Wish i had known you were there.

Beachwood Long Beach soon to be no more. Closing the doors and shifting all production over to their HB location. ISM Brewing will take over as Ian’s new brewery. Didn’t see that coming.

This is sad news. Now there's only going to be the Huntington Beach location.

At least white supremacists will have a place to go

Bixby Knolls, Garden Grove, new stand at the 2nd and PCH shopping mall?

The two best locations are gone though.

I'm willing to give ISM a shot, even though the name sounds like an industrial services company. Maybe it'll grow on me. As sad as this is the LB location has been dying a slow death over the last year or so.

Maybe a fresh start isn't the worst thing.

Do they like good beer? I thought they only drank the crappy beers.

Their pizza joint is pretty good. Just down the street from me. A 20 minute walk. Yes I miss their Seal Beach location. Havent been to the LB location in over a year. Maybe a year in half?

I didn't even know about those locations. Thanks for the heads up. I don't really get out much these days. Too much good stuff on streaming platforms

Sadly, this looked like a possibility last Fall and Winter after Gabriel cited issues with the large numbers of homeless at the end of the public transportation line, and office closures and lease cancellations impacting foot traffic in their area. The closure of their kitchen was further indication they might not make it much longer. Gabriel said last year they would have had to close down the brewery completely if the other locations weren't successfully subsidizing the losses at the LB location. Has to be easier operating in OC, at least since 2020.

Really going to miss this location, my favorite Southern California brewery space and brewery in general. Glad they are still doing well at their other locations, and hope we continue getting beer drops here once/twice a year.

Three relevant articles over the course of 12 months.

Man, that right there is a mood.

I moved from Albuquerque back to California in the late 80s. I lived out in the Mojave Desert but I spent almost every weekend in LA, going to concerts and hockey games and revisiting the places I lived as a kid in the early 70s (Long Beach area). By the time I moved down to the Valley in the mid-90s, I figured that the crime and gangs and street-level fear was just part of living in LA at that end of the 20th century.

How’s the pizza at beachwood compare to RiiP? I’ve only gone to RiiP once and really liked their pizza. I do prefer the thin slices over doughy pizza.

Which pizza did you have at RiiP? Detroit or Round? I’ve had both. I prefer the round (thin crust). I’ve been to both many times now since they’ve opened. Both use sourdough. Beachwood’s Are 16” compared to RiiP’s 18”. Both are about the same price. So you get more pizza for the $$ at RiiP. I prefer Beachwood’s slightly over RiiP’s. Beachwood offers cheese or pepperoni slices and also a slice of the day. RiiP offers 5-8 different slices so you don’t have to buy the whole pie. I’ve been on a diet & exercise kick since January, but I still go to both and usually will have one of their salads lately. But I do order a slice of pizza when I don’t feel like a salad. Beachwood is closed on Tuesdays. RiiPs open 7 days and opens at 10am on Sundays during football season. Both make terrific beers but RiiP is more west coast ipa’s. Both don’t do much hazy’s and the hazy’s they do brew are just okay.

I went solo for a lunch one weekday. I just got a few different slices. They were thin not the Detroit pizza.

@ChicagoJ said everything I came here to say and more. I think the homeless issue has significantly decreased in the past year but the underlying problem is that the downtown business association is dysfunctional. Every time I’m at the downtown Beachwood location it’s packed, probably the busiest business in that area. I think the overall state of downtown is representative of the effort the city puts into it. They were doing great 10 years ago and seem to be coasting their way into a ghost town ever since. Meanwhile Belmont Shore, Bixby Knolls, and 4th St are thriving. I can see where that would be frustrating as a business owner.

Maybe it depends on the part of town but it seems like things are steadily improving south of 7th over the past year. I walk everywhere between downtown and the shore, but I drive if it’s north of 7th. Downtown still feels rough since the pandemic and I don’t think they’re doing anything to improve.

@GetMeAnIPA FYI, I just left Beachwood Pizza and now at RiiPizza. Beachwood Puzza changed their hours on Mon, Wed & Thur to 3pm opening instead of 1130am. Still closed on Tuesdays. I was looking forward to a slice of pie there. Oh well. I hope it’s not a sign of things to come? Guess if I want pizza and beer for lunch it’ll have to be RiiPizza for now. Unless I go to BWPizza on the weekends. Damn.

The writing was on the wall for BWLB as soon as they stopped the food. Unless you live in downtown, it’s too much of a pain to go there just for the beer. It felt like they were divesting in that spot for at least the last year, which makes sense.

But man this sucks… that spot used to have the best vibe, amazing food, and everything going for it.

I was thinking the same thing. It was a matter of time once the food menu was gone. It’s a shame. No reason to go there from HB when I got the pizza joint and tasting room next to me. But now they cut the hours at their pizza joint. Is that a sign also? Hope not. Windsor Homebrew cut their hours from 10am to 11.

The beer scene is collapsing. I guess John Taffer was right. Us Millennials just couldn’t keep up, and Gen Z prefers pot.
