Half Acre Benthic - Sunken Ghost. Blended BA Imperial Stout w/ hand-toasted coconut and Dark Matter Catuai whole bean coffee. This recipe is a blend of the following select barrels:
    • 2021 Benthic aged 21 months in Blanton’s barrels
    • 2021 Benthic aged 23 months in EH Taylor barrels
    • 2021 Benthic aged 21 months in Eagle Rare barrels
    • chocolate-forward base stout aged 17 months in Heaven Hill bourbon barrels
    • chocolate-forward base stout aged 17 months in Bardstown bourbon barrels
    • roast-forward base stout aged 17 months in Weller bourbon barrels
This has an outstanding barrel depth to it and complements the adjuncts and base very well. The barrel brings toasted and charred oak, big vanillin, and bourbon/whiskey spirit that's smooth, but with a nice dose of complex heat. The base and adjuncts bring 90% dark chocolate bar and ganache, some milk chocolate bar, caramel, molasses, toasted coconut, big roasted malt, some toffee, coffee, fig, some prune, slight tobacco. The age has let the adjuncts settle a bit, but hasn't tempered the barrel yet. I'm not mad about that. World class barrel juice.

This year’s batch is incredible in my opinion. Tons of oak, vanilla, char from the barrel. Great dar roast, rich coffee. Perfect carb. Medium, creamy mouthfeel. Dark chocolate heavy base. Love revolution.

IMO cafe deth is actually a little sweeter than OG. Surprising with the coffee addition. I thought 2021 CD was outstanding and definitely more coffee forward than last year. Was still crazy good, though. Hope you can score a few

Missed Fundamental Observation on Tavour. Sold out. Oh well, saved $30

Did they hold the coconut in their mittens with some hand warmers?

Beer sounds good as hell though.

I ran a little Narwhal side by side while starting a puzzle with the kids tonight. 2019 v 2023. I kind of knew 2019 was over the hill (they hit a second high for me around 3 years but fall off from there) but it was really enjoyable. Having the contrast of the fresh one made it better I think.

Fresh Narwhal is full of bitter chocolate, some ash, and diner coffee. Like a dessert that you can't help but notice isn't good for you. Sinful sips of deliciousness.

2019 has thinned out and gotten a prominent raisin note that couples with a sherry/port thing that leaves an impression of rum raisin cake.

Gonna get some more 23 and try it next to 20 and 21 next

Time for another big beer from Sully. Still clearing the shelves for incoming! this is a beer from the great @FBarber as part of my EPL winnings. Thank you! This is Suffolk County Stout from Goose Island in collaboration with Adnams Southwold. Beer is 14.3 %.

    onto my review:
Sampling a 500 ml bottle poured into a snifter at cellar temp. Date stamp says to enjoy before Feb 2023. Im sure its fine at 14.3%.
The beer pours a dark cola brown to black coffee color with a dense creamy beige head of just under 1 cm. This foam fades to a thin edge layer early in the sampling. This edging creates some scattered lattice when I swirl the beer or take a sip.
Aroma on this beer is a bit of cocoa powder, light whisky notes and some fusol warming too. I believe i pick up a little bit of wooden barrel and hints of dark fruit buried. No hops on this nose.
First sip reveals a medium body with very soft pillowy texture. Didnt expect it to have such a soft physical presence. Carbonation is fine and gentle. The physical traits make this a pretty easy drinking beer.
Flavor is more of what the nose advertises. I get cocoa powder and chocolate bar, but not very sweet. There is also a bit of whisky note and some molasses. A little warmth on the swallow. Again no hops that I can detect.
This is a pretty easy drinking big beer. Flavor is good, not overly complex, but I am enjoying it just fine.
glad to have tried this one!
