    Happy Halloween, BA!

Took the day off to do things. Having a Invertase 425 Imperial Pumpkin Ale. Never heard of this brewery before. It's ok, but the lactose mutes some of the pumpkin/squash flavors.

    boo!

A pumpkiny stout seems fitting for today, and local too! Quite tasty!

Decided to grill up a quick lunch while enjoying the King.

5.33oz ground chuck, salt, msg, bacon, Cabot cheese, tomato, mayo on fresh bakery bun.

    Cooked mid-rare.

Conducting a side by side review amid flurries of fresh vs. 3 year cellared on this All Hallows' Eve!

Bell's Expedition Stouts: 9/30/2020 Cobwebbed LHS vs. 9/6/2023 RHS

Full review in the side by side comparison thread. 2020 looked lighter, head weak and aroma stale, but by God it tasted fuller, richer and stronger than the fresh 2023 version. One of the few instances for me where a non flawed (fresh hot, adjuncts too strong better weakened) solid fresh stout improved for my palate with 3 years on it. Drink cans fresh, cellar select bottles properly and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Might return later today or tomorrow with a blend if I can't finish the intimidating 24 ounces (only about 6 combined oz in at this stage).

This Psychedelic Furs Two for Tuesday goes out to all who have departed before us; hoping they are in a better place.

Happy Halloween BA's! Couple hours of vaca today to clean up the yard and entrance for the tricksters. They're going to start in a feels like 85 degree temp, hopefully it drops when the sun goes down. VooDoo Juicy Haze as the recovery beverage.

    1) Paulaner Muncher Hell (4.9%): An authentic German Helles with flavors of earthy honey and German bread. Yeasty and a smooth finish.
    versus
    2) Weihenstephaner Original Premium (5.1%): An authentic German Helles with flavors of pale and earthy Munich malts. Smooth, mildly sweet. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

    Winner:
    2) Weihenstephaner Original Premium
: German Helles Battle. Paulaner is pretty much the gold-standard. Bready, yeasty, soft. This seemed sort of washed-out in flavor though.
Weihenstephaner has similar flavors, but slightly more pronounced, earthy, and authentic Munich malt flavors. If this is the "Original Premium" from "The World's Oldest Brewery" I have to assume this beer dates back a while. Both are good, but I'd pay the extra buck and go with Weihenstephaner.
