It's not overly comparable to Arcane. I would say the sweetness is much lower in this one. Beautiful layers of toffee, raisin and bourbon, with a hint of smoke.

I have a bad habit of sitting on my favorite beers for too long so I popped my 2nd to last Hypermash Hydra tonight.

Still a great beer but highly recommend letting it get to near room temp to enjoy it. When cold, its a chocolate/coffee stout with not much coconut and the cinnamon is only there on the aftertaste for me.

When warmed up, all the flavors come back out but it feels...lighter than I remember it. Like the flavors have been turned down ~30%. Guess that's to be expected of a beer that's 3.5+ years old. You could keep sitting on it I suppose and I'm sure it'll still be good in 6 months to a year but at this point I think I'd recommend popping your bottles if you got em.

Anyone else as pumped for the upcoming Darkstar November release? 15.3% ABV this year, according to IG!

I stopped by the tasting room for the first time in a while and tried Darkstar and some of its variants. I don't know if these beers are for me anymore. Came off a bit too sweet for my liking and heavy on the rye notes.

I also tried the adjunct-free barleywine and wasn't feeling it either. I wanted a barleywine that was slightly sweet, malty and with some dried fruit notes to it. What I got was the liquid equivalent of the toffee candy they sell at See's.

I'd agree on the heavy rye/molasses part, seems more skewed that way than in years past. I still thought it was prety good and enjoyed the one-off variants.

Anyone try Scramjet or the chocolate stout that came out today?

Scramjet was one of the best BL beers i've had all year. They do peanut butter so well. This wasn't overly sweet as some people might be worried about, was like a dark chocolate Reese's peanut butter cup.

I had the opposite experience. Tasted like that peanut butter powder and way too sweet chocolate flavor and that's it.

That seems to be their trajectory and what the target audience likes.
The people i had it with enjoyed it, though
It was definitely not Dark Chocolate . I've never had a Reeses Dark Chocolate cup but they are really the bottom of the barrel when it comes to any kind of chocolate quality.

I got to try it tonight and I thought it was just fine. I thought you were correct on a dark chocolate Reese's PB cub but I ended up getting nearly all dark chocolate and very little PB which was a bit disappointing. Form Five was also solid.

Form Five was really good. They still have Physchokinetic Energy on tap (as of Friday) and two of the Darkstar special releases. Those are amazing, IMO.
