I really, really enjoyed the last iteration of DBVSOD and looking forward to this one but VSOJ is such a different animal that in my opinion it’s kind of pointless to try to pit them against each other. We’re just lucky to get both.

 

Dang, totally missed that November's release was bumped up a week. I was wondering why the preview parties were all a week before it was supposed to come out. Looks like I'll be in the city three weekends in a row.

 

I don’t recall seeing it mentioned yet, but for those who don’t follow social media (I’m usually pretty bad)the taproom will tap a series of Deep Woods kegs over the next few days. Boss VSOJ tonight, Destroyed by the Empire Thursday, 10-year Friday, and Rum VSOJ on Saturday. Plus the Goldfinger collaboration! I wish it were the pub so I could walk over easily but I’m hoping I can stop by when Destroyed by the Empire is on - always fun to revisit that one.

Chicago folk: D.B.V.S.O.D. Money Barrel no. 7401, on draft at the Hopleaf, is absolutely fantastic. Worth a trip if you can get there, hopefully it will last until tomorrow.

Fudge, vanilla, oak, bourbon and a certain je ne sais quoi. A treat!

 

Draft variants were in my e-mail this morning:

Barrel no. 7401 - D.B.V.S.O.D. Money Barrel with Troncais Forte French Oak 17.6% (Single Barrel)
Every once in a while we sample a barrel that just makes our day. This was one such barrel. Aged in a blend of Weller, Blantons, and Stagg Jr. bourbon barrels, then rebarreled in Buffalo Trace with additional single-origin Troncais Forte French oak, this singular example of Double Barrel V.S.O.D. has a bouquet more like a heavily-oaked French red than Bourbon Barrel Stout.

V.S.O. Boss Lumberstruck - 13.0% (Single Barrel)
2022’s Black Barleywine unblended sweet component aged for two years in a French oak WhistlePig The Boss Hog VIII Lapulapu’s Pacific Rye/Rum barrel. Extended time in-barrel has transformed its once heady malt sweetness into a cherry and stone fruit menagerie balanced by toasty, uncharred oak.

Very Old Thundertaker - 16.2% (SIngle Barrel)
Thirty months in a single Yellowstone Bourbon barrel has turned this Imperial Rye Stout into a chocolatey, boozy caricature of itself. Waves of malt-derrived cocoa and marzipan smash against a breakwall of oaken vanilla in this long-aged expression of Thundertaker.

 

I have no idea WTF is going on in that art and that disturbs me.
