Old Style Returning to LaCrosse

I drank my fair share of Old Style in the 1980's & 90's. Still do occasionally, mainly because my favorite pizza joint doesn't serve craft options or draft beer for that matter. So cans of Old Style it is, along with a 6 oz glass.

 

Where did you read that? "Miller", of course, no longer exists and City was purchased by a new group of investors, which includes many Pabst executives.

And Pabst previously announced that they intend to move the bulk of their contract brewing from Molson Coors to City's 4 breweries by next year.

 

Oh, yeah, should also note the info supplied by @ChicagoJ in another thread about Old Style's return to La Crosse. And page down to his next post (#10) for a link to an older interview with a Pabst/OS brand manager.

 

Here's a link to the new COLA approval for the La Crosse-brewed Old Style. No mention of krausening on the label, unless that's what "old world methods" means.

 

This article mentions brand reps confirmed the 'old recipe' is not returning with the move to La Crosse. It does not specify what is the 'old recipe' but presumably this includes krausening(?).

 

That's kind of a pity since City sold La Crosse Lager for a number of years, which was marketed (or at least widely rumored) as the original recipe of Old Style. Obviously it wasn't brewed at the scale that Old Style likely will be there though.

I purchase a 30pack of Old Style once in a while. I have no problems with drinking Old Style. I`ve been drinking it since 1971. I will say that the taste changed when it was stopped being made in La Crosse. It`s good beer as far as I`m concerned. It will be interesting if the taste changes going from being brewed at the Miller brewery, to back home in La Crosse.
