I really wish they would say how long reg benthic is aged so that I know exactly how that compares to these extended aged versions each year.

Personally, the last 2-3 years have felt a little “oxidized” compared to the reg. Or maybe like they slightly lost their pep. I feel like this would be a great candidate to try with the nitro cans.

I actually learned about this recently. It's a wine made with green grapes, with the skins and seeds included. This apparently winds up giving the finished wine an orange-ish hue.

Really sounds like a perfect complement for a toasted coconut and coffee stout...

“Skin contact” is how you describe it. The length of time on the skins will determine colour, tannins etc.

Interesting to use a barrel for a stout. It would be interesting to know the % blend that came from that barrel.

Dusting off my account to say it was a very smooth process for me. No truffle add-ons this year.

    Score
Between yesterday and today this concludes my stout purchasing for the year. Feels good to wrap this up a couple weeks before Black Friday.

Got it but app seemed buggy and slow today. Gave me a CC error on my first pass with Apple Pay but I repeated it and the second one was successful.

2022 Benthic was a blend of stout aged in barrels between nine and sixteen months. [IMG]

Thanks @TheLoadedOne . For some reason it won't let me quote your post, but I really appreciate it!

Benthic is still available. Today beer is dead, yesterday it was not. Tomorrow, who knows?

I think last year it lasted about 75minutes?

If the packs don't sell out for a while, I wouldn't be surprised. Every year there are more great barrel aged offerings on the market, all while we're in a recession.

Same, it stopped loading after I paid, it was definitely bugging out. But the email finally came through after about 5 minutes and app worked normally again.

Yeah, app is definitely glitchy. I got charged by GMB and a confirm email from Oznr once I was done. I had an order on my profile and now it’s not there. I figure given the two items above I’m good. Don’t want to risk it by ordering again to cancel the whole thing out.

Orange wines can vary widely, but generally they are fruit forward (always white grape varietals) and sometimes funky. Skin contact wines are often fermented spontaneously using the wild yeast present on the grape skins. It's a very old method that has recently come back in style.

A big stout in an orange wine barrel sounds risky, but i'd try it.

To echo the sentiment of barrel aged offerings and prioritizing, I've had to be much more selective since becoming a dad last fall. Not only because kids are somehow more expensive than stout season pickups (who would've thought), but also because I could stand to lose some weight and I don't have the same group of friends helping me chug whalez like I did in the early part of the pandemic. I've gotten my stash down to about half size just by opening up random Rev cans during the week and even with that dedication, I still have a bit of a mountain to climb. I thought I missed out on Benthic, but was happy to see boxes available so I snagged one. Half Acre, Cruz Blanca and Rev are the ones I prioritize and even then, I'm nowhere near maxing out on each. My wife, waistline and most importantly wallet thank me.

I've downsized a lot since having a kid in early 2020. Basically, I prioritize anything with adjuncts, drink stuff fresh, and the only things that sit around are one-offs for some type of celebration or BCBS, because that can literally sit for 5-10 years and I'll have no issue (adjuncts aside).

Congrats on being a dad. It's the best thing you'll ever do.
