I've always said there is no finer beer than than a Russian Imperial Stout, except a Barrel-aged one, this is one of the best, checks in at a paltry 13.4%.

I have looked but haven't touched that one. Lost Coast kind of lost me when they leaned into the artifical fruit flavored wheat beers and then openly screwed over the artist that created their original marketing look (local legend Dwayne Flatmo).

They do seem to have made some changes for the better, and actually moved onto a new look instead of just paying some other artist to rip off Dwayne's style, but I haven't actually given them another shot.

...I mentioned on WBAYDN? today that pFriem does big dark beers well...this is no exception...balanced base beer with a nice bit of bourbon barrel torque thrown into the mix...

pFriem does every style so well. Their IPAs are probably their least impressive efforts since they are mostly just "pretty good - delicious". But everything else they make is pretty exemplary. Gotta love a brewer that can make a pale lager and a ba stout that are both top notch

Voltaic Stack from Bottle Logic. An imperial stout aged in bourbon and finished with bananas, walnuts, maple syrup, and cinnamon. Comes in at 13.08% ABV. This is the kind of beer that was really good for half a glass, but got a little bit difficult to drink after that.

Pours black with a relatively thin layer of brown head. The nose is really nice. Walnuts, cinnamon, banana, lactose, a hint of maple ham, chocolate, and some dark fruit. The taste is really interesting and quite complex. Cinnamon, vanilla, baking chocolate, nuts, banana, cream, and a huge bready/biscuit note. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy.

After half a glass: the banana became too much. Almost like the banana was overripe. Honestly didn't love it at that point. Some might love it.

Now cracking a can that I received from @sulldaddy in the recent barleywine/stout BIF. Man, he sent so many great beers! This is Barred from Eredita in CT. Imperial stout with coffee. Comes in at 10% ABV.

Pours jet black with a very thin layer of brown head. The nose is classic imperial stout with some dark roasted coffee. Char, roasted malts, tobacco. The taste is super intense and super roasty. Wow. bitter dark chocolate, tar, burnt wood, tobacco, coffee grounds, molasses, and some black licorice. So flavorful! The chocolate malts really come through.

This is truly a throwback beer. No adjuncts and literally no sweetness. The burnt wood and roasted barley just get amplified as it warms. The coffee is just so great on this one. Just ends up tasting like a VERY awesome Russian imperial stout. Mouthfeel is thick and viscous. Just a lovely beer.

Goose Island '22 Bourbon County (Heaven Hill barrels). Appearance is what you'd expect from BCBS. Quite dark with a finger of dark mocha head that dissipates quickly.
Aroma is chocolatey, dark fruit-saturated, and big on barrel.
Taste brings lots of smooth barrel character on this one, bringing lots of vanillin, coconut, bourbon spirit, and charred oak. Typical wonderful barrel character that you'd expect from BCBS, but just ticked up another notch. The base brings dark chocolate fudge, slight milk chocolate, caramel, molasses, nuttiness, boxed raisin, fig, slight prune, brown sugar, some tobacco.
Medium body. Feel like it's thinned out a bit from the barrel. Sticky, oily, slick.
A great BCBS vintage. I still haven't tried the regular 16.9 oz. bottle, but this one is quite impressive. Love the barrel character. Highly enjoyable.

Yes, CT represented here! I’ve had a few IPAs from Eredita and can tell they know what they’re doing. Haven’t seen a stout from them on the shelves yet, but will pick it up for sure if I do
