Moving along, certainly dont get to try many Roggenbiers!! Again from Sapwood Cellars.

Poured from the can into a nonic(k) pint glass. Canned Oct 6th 2023.

Muddy copper body with a dark rusted brown and red mix of hues. Milky kind of appearance with a one finger topped fleeting tan head. Settles to a thin collar with a little bit of a puck, and slightly oily looking on top.

Fun aroma. Huge banana ester on this, with the classic hefe character, and more of a darker hinting clove note of spice. Malt character is a little burried here but there's still plenty on the nose to enjoy. Kind of impressive in a way.

Palate is an interesting fun romp. Spicy sensing malt background from the rye, with a twist of banana sweetness and even an almost cinnamon like punch. Fruity after-finish, almost berry like with prickly and real spicy dryness. Comes off like a dunkel but very different and has highly accentuated rye flavors and character. The balance is a little bit off kilter, but the flavors are solid. There's much to explore and enjoy here.

Overall pretty fun tasting beer, it's lacking a bit more body and thickness that I was hoping for. The spicy malt angle is definitely there, and if you are a rye fan this will suit you well.

another one courtesy of @Braunmeister_1943 in the stout / bw BIF. coco crazee - bourbon barrel-aged from other half. it was just that. coconut for days. rich, thick, chocolate forward with subtle bourbon barrel notes. tasty but the sheer sweetness had me slowing down my drinking pace (probably not a bad thing) on the second half of the bottle. cheers!!

Trying out Maryland's 13th top rated beer... and for good reason!

Rings of Light (APA) - Sapwood Cellars

Poured from the can into a nonic(k) pint glass. Canned Nov 1st 2023.

Muted yellow, with a honey and solid like appearance, not a hue to it whatsoever. However, it's a painted bee pollen like appearance with a real nice creamed white one finger head on top.

Punchy aroma. Large amounts of citrus orange and a spritzy oil of zest and herbs. Hits slightly dank but more herbal and grass like with a real brightness. Hints a little chalky on the malt side, touching a sense of flour and powdery like senses. Still very impressive nose here.

Palate is super impressive. Even in pale ale lightness there's a solid juicy body here that accentuates the hop pleasures. Rolling amounts of citrus orange and lemon/lime qualities. Mild sensing sweetness in the mid palate with just enough grassy bitterness that cuts and makes the beer playful. Fruit punch medley even gets bigger as it seems there is more fruit flavor than expected, pineapple, mango even.

This has that classic New England style quality in a basic pale package. It's also an excellent hop showcase, without the giant juice bomb slam of many NEIPAs. This is a great all rounder and fantastically made pale ale.

Lunch beer is an APA from Hop Butcher - Poppy Seed Bun, an all Riwaka hop:

Deep amber pour with off white foam; excellent cap retention, solid ring; lots of soapy lace. Skunky dank tropical fruit nose. Grapefruit, sweet pineapple with a lemon/lime finish. Medium light body, moderate minus carbonation; no astringency. Overall, thin but crushable; I really like the Riwaka hop nose/taste.

I liked this beer…it is skunk and kinda dank…the nose is in your face, the flavors citrus/tropical. Not sweet/not a kid’s juice box…a hop profile I’m enjoying more and more in a Hazy Lite - Cheers!

Final new beer of the day, and another thanks to @cheeseheadinMinneapolis

    IPA - New Glarus Brewing - 6.75%

It's tasty, and it's also designed to those who are new to the style. It's not over the top bitter, nor is it over the top citrus. Decent balance between pine, citrus and malts. Pretty good in spite of me being so much below the average here.

    From a 12oz bottle

A slight hiss upon opening the bottle. Clear golden pouring beer. There's a tornado of carbonation rising in the glass, it's insane the carbonation. The head that forms is 1 finger, white, and quite frothy looking. The retention is well, amazing. The head isn't dissipating at all. The slight bit of dissipation shows a bit of lacing on the glass.
I get a malty, yet citrus aroma from the nose. A nice combination of biscuit and citrus.
The flavor has pleasing hop notes in it. I do get a pine flavor, that I didn't get from the aroma. I do get some citrus, and I also get a faint malt backbone to this beer. Some bitterness to this beer, but not much.
Bubbly as heck here. This tickles my throat. The body is pretty decent, and full.
Quite a tasty, and delicious take on an IPA. Not over the top bitter, and it's a good one for those who don't know much about the style.

See you all next weekend, and likely Sunday, for the next NBW!!!

This new to me beer is another absolute banger courtesy @Beersnake1 from a killer porch bomb for Barleywine/Stout BIF #1.

Beer of the Dark, bourbon barrel aged stout with Vanilla, from Chapman Craft Beer, Orange California. Apparently this decadent, viscous, 14.4% beer is a 2023 CA Brewer’s Cup Gold Metal winner. Well deserved hardware.

This is my kind of stout. Jet black, thick, rich, chewy, boozy barrel with vanilla and excellent barrel character. The hits just keep on coming. The generous ABV ought to help get me through this Packer game :grimacing:. Thanks, Tim!

The Stout/Barleywine BIF included "Mystery Beers", and I decided to open mine (I knew it was only 7.5%) shortly after noon today. Courtesy of @CBlack85 ....

This started off with a dark brown pour and a light brown head, moderate lacing. Nose was predominantly coffee -- so I was looking for more "breakfast stout flags" here, but while there was SOMETHING sweet here, it wasn't the maple I was hoping for/expecting. The only way I can describe it is as something like graham cracker? Upon tasting, there was a ton of coffee and not a whole lot else, but between the taste and incredibly smooth (if a little thin) mouthfeel I deduced it was an oatmeal stout. The only other thing I really notice is significant bitter chocolate in the aftertaste; IMO that's a good thing.

I didn't have enough info to get any more specific, so onto the reveal...

Heist Brunch Junkie. I guess I was close enough. Thanks again Chris!

Nice seeing the 3 Sheeps beers being shared and enjoyed @beergoot ! I have weeks worth of new beers still from that trip (all cellar worthy including your Hair of the Dog selection) and can't wait to enjoy this Winter and hoping to see all again in Sheboygan next year!

Nice to see you back @FBarber , glad you enjoyed Husk as well, and another Is/Was selection! And hope you are enjoying your Birthday Weekend @Luscious_Malfoy !

Welcome one and all to New Beer Sunday #977! Part two of two from Roundhead, this one a brown ale.

    Roundhead Ojos Pardos

    Can Notes:
Obtained via trade from Adam, @Qu3st on Beer Advocate, on August 19. refrigerated until today. No can date, assuming a likely July or August canning.16 oz Brown Ale, 5.5% ABV. Brewed by Roundhead Brewing Company, Powerhouse at Westinghouse Plaza, i107 Hyde Park, Massachusetts. Label design by Alex Budnitz.

Roasty, rich, and malty. Balanced with earthy hops. Tostado, rico, y malteado. Balanceado con lupulos terrosos.

Appearance: 3/4 can pour into a nonic pint glass. Dark brown base which permits light to penetrate to note light carbonation, creamy tan head leaves bubbly full cover over the base and trickles of lacing. 4.25

    Aroma:
Nice aromas of lightly roasted malt, cocoa, caramel all blending nicely together. Strong and pleasant from the moment the can was cracked open. 4.0

    Taste:
Consistent with the aroma and style, a nice medley of traditional brown ale flavors, with the roast malt and sweet chocolate and caramel tasting wonderful, and a firm hops presence keeping this balanced and flavorful. Perhaps pine needle notes on the hops. Digging this. 4.25

    Mouthfeel:
Light and easy drinking, leans sweet but hops does a good job, medium body, gentle light carbonation. drinks at or below the abv. Chocolate and toffee linger nicely on the finish. 4.25

    Overall:
Overall this is a solid beer. Not sure if I would be able to identify more of the hops flavor profile if I drank a few months ago, but in terms of balance it's still all there. This is a solid Brown Ale, one of my favorites, and Roundhead delivers nicely with this offering. Well done. 4.25

Think I'm going to turn to two drink fresh local beers before beginning my stronger cellared stouts and other heavy hitters Thanksgiving Weekend. Been a very fun and active thread this weekend, look forward to what the rest of Sunday brings.

    Cheers!

My wife and I usually do a movie then dinner on Fridays or Saturdays. Not wanting to see the Marvel film, we opted for The Post. It was so terrible, I almost wished we had seen the Marvel film.
I took our old dog for a walk this morning, then settled in for some football. Kind of nice watching the NFL at 7:30 in the morning.
My new, non-stout, non-barleywine, beer for today is Atomic Torpedo.
The beer is a dark amber color with a small off-white head and a little lace.
Citrus aroma, some other sweet fruit, pine, a little caramel.
Taste of grapefruit, mango, pineapple, and pine. Caramel background.
    Light bitterness. Alcohol well-hidden.

Reviewed blind; the reveal did not change my ratings at all, as this is one crazy, decadent, and absolutely delicious beer.

Sweet and dark. You'd be forgiven for assuming this is a stout/barleywine blend. I've never had a barleywine this thick outside of Barreled Souls. The barrel choice, including a white wine barrel that previously held rye whiskey, is inspired.

Full tasting notes in the review below. Spoilers: it's freaking awesome.
