Bombs Over Barley (Parker's Heritage bourbon edition) from Barreled Souls. Courtesy of @sulldaddy in the Barleywine/Stout BIF. A 14.4% barleywine aged for 12 months and 7 days in Parker's Heritage Heavy Char bourbon barrels. Bottled on 11/03/2021, so it has had some time to sit in the bottle.

Poured at just a bit warmer than fridge temp. Pours a very dark brown with a thin layer of head. The nose is spectacular. Bourbon, toffee, vanilla, molasses, figs, and prunes. There is some booziness here, but it's fairly mellow. The nose is just so freaking awesome. I could sit here and smell this for days. After sitting with it for a few minutes, I get a nice sherry/raisin note come through.

The taste is absolutely phenomenal. Very low carbonation, so the flavors punch you in the face without hesitation. Deep notes of bourbon-soaked toffee, vanilla, raisin, brown sugar, and a slight burnt note. It's almost like candied sugar or burnt toffee. The alcohol is not really detectable, although there is a modest boozy/alcohol taste. I wouldn't have guessed this was 14.4% ABV, that's for sure.

The mouthfeel is medium to light bodied. The aftertaste is a sweet raisin mixed with toffee. Lovely beer overall!

I live relatively close to BS and have never been. Whenever I might be driving up to Maine and past them, they haven’t had any stouts or barleywine available. Have heard ONLY good things

Everything I have had from them has been great! You are lucky to live close!

Pumpkin Spice Bligh's from Dry Dock via Barleywine etc. BIF

I think I've tried a few pumpkin barleywines and they have been good. No exception here, this works well. I think I can actually taste some gourd here which is nice. The underlying caramel and bourbon definitely shine through and the spicing is nice but a bit less nutmeg or allspice would have suited me. Thanks Dave! @beergoot

Had a spicy barleywine yesterday, going for sweet today. Maple Pecan BA Bligh's from Dry Dock courtesy of @beergoot via the barleywine etc BIF.

Pours with short lived fizz but the body is a pretty, clear chestnut color. Cold, the maple syrup has an unpleasant metallic note, but that disappears as it warms. This is more to my liking than the pumpkin pie spiced version. Sweet caramel, booze, and maple glazed pecans all play really nicely together. Some bitter heat and oak at the end found things out. Good stuff, thanks Dave!

There's no joking with barley wine!!
It would be tough to make that call since the brewer claims that the beer is a little different every year.

With round 1 today busted out a Gin Rickey Barleywine acquired almost a year ago. This was a different animal, very herbal and medicinal. But if you sit back and contemplate the last Martini/gin based cocktail you enjoyed, one has to admit it was pretty damn close. Well-conceived and executed, the mixology does not translate overly well to a tasty beer format. Maybe that is why i only have a martini on my birthday only...Overall rated 3.67.

Sounds interesting! I can't say that I've had many gin barrel aged beers!

Onto round 2, had to bust out a 2023 Bigfoot, ahhh...redemption! Tried and true, always enjoyable!
Speaking of Bigfoot my neighborhood tasting group, the Orchards of Flat Rock (OFR) Gourmet Society, is getting together Saturday for a Bigfoot tasting of cellared brews from Sierra Nevada. The vintages are 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2022. I'll post a few pics and the results Sunday morning.
    Cheers!

Drinking a beauty tonight! Thanks to Chris (@sulldaddy ) for this one! Bygone from Counter Weight. English style old ale aged in Bulleit barrels. Barleywine adjacent, but 100% in line with a barleywine!

Poured from a bottle at fridge temp. Pours dark brown with a thin layer of bubbly light brown head. Carbonation looks good. The nose is toffee, big malts, slight roasty note, figs, whiskey.

The taste is incredible. Werther's caramel candy all the way. Brown sugar, molasses, slight maple, bourbon, raisin, bread, malts, slight leather, and prunes. Excellent beer! Totally love it.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied. Easily as flavorful as a much higher ABV beer.

Here's a good old beer...I like drinking old beer...There's always something I find that I know would be different than fresh...maybe better...maybe not. I couldn't see a date on this but I'm guessing its 7 or 8 yrs old. No carbonation at all even though you see a few small bubbles...it's sweet. it's malty....no hops and a nice kick of alcohol. I bet fresh this would have been as amazing as this tastes..but wildly different

I went from, "Oh no I have another of these? Uggh." all the way to, "Man, really wish this one wasn't my last one." Still can't figure out how three bottles that were stored their entire lives within two feet of each other could end to be so different.

Bigfoot Friday! Gotta drink down my Bigfoot inventory and I'm trying to make Friday the day.[IMG]

Bigfoot is the prettiest big beer out there, perfect clarity and a big, lumpy head even at close to 8 years old. Stored in darkness at cellar temperature since I purchased it fresh and it is magnificent. Smooth and mellow with lots of toffee and brown sugar and hints of dark fruits citrus rind. No burn at all, hops or alcohol. Amazing.

Love Live Beerworks (Providence, RI) - Winehaus. I picked up a few weeks ago while driving through RI on a work trip. Definitely oaky, with some vanilla, light toffee, a touch of orange peel.
