Jai Alai out front on a cool 66 degree day. Ok, the weird morning, I'll try to brief. I'm out on my 5 mile walk almost to the turnaround spot. I hear something behind me, look back and it's an electric bike, I give him room and notice he's hauling ass, 25-30 down the sidewalk. For whatever reason he looks wobbly, misses the ramp, nails a 10" curb, launches off the bike, left should nails a concrete light pole, body starts spinning around and he lands about 12 further up on his head, no helmet. This all took maybe 1.5 seconds, so he's on the ground in a turning lane of a 4 lane usually busy, thank god it was Sunday, on his back, head on the curb, already puddling in red stuff, bike on him, of course, motionless, completely motionless. A car driver see's him down and pulls over to shield his body. I get the bike off him and god bless her she's a nurse. She carefully aligns his head/neck to keep the airway open. A few other folks pull over to see if we needed anything while waiting for the ambulance, which seemed like 30 minutes, was at least 15. The ambulance, and rescue, and 2 fire trucks all arrive and tend to him, still not a movement or sound, load him on the sled, they said he was alive, I couldn't tell, help us wash up, was pretty gross, so the couple of us all hug each other and head out when the ambulance leaves. I'm heading home walking when I hear the telltale sound of a LEO blipping his siren, no LEO ever arrived at the crash site, window down and asks if I was the one that witness the crash, yep told him all the above. I hope the guy lived but it was pretty ugly. I just wanted a beer calorie burning walk.....

I am saddened for the Giants. Of all the teams in the NFC East, I always had least hate for them. If anything, they look worse than last year.

Grill getting fired up. Huli Huli Chicken thighs

my ex-boss bit riding one of those scooters in Long Beach. She ended up losing a tooth, still fighting with her insurance for the implant.

It's not even a fair fight. One beer is like a mixed bag of plastic surgery while the other delivers every single time.

VelociRabbit. An IPA brewed by Aslin. Watching the Washington game. Tied at halftime so I am not yet crying in my beer. I see that the dreaded Cowboys are having an easy time of it.

I randomly thought about New Year's Eve during Y2K. That was a wild night for sure. I could write stories about it. I remember streaking in a Giant parking lot the next morning still drunk w/ this song blasting from the car speakers. It was a 24-hr Giant, so thankfully not many people were up. What a night to Celebrate!

This one is stunning. I don't know why but I'm loving this way more than the first time I had it in 2015.
    Appearance is deep mahogany.
Nose is rich and deep. A gently charred bourbon note starts off. Then dates, caramel, dried apples, and something akin to mulled wine.
A rich blend of the usual suspects; dates, toffee, raisin, fig, & caramel, and even some molasses mix with an elegant bourbon sweetness and charred barrel note. Again, a deep fruit note comes through that is part apple brandy barrel, part mulled wine. It's warm and slightly vinous. But subtle, only adding an interesting nuance beyond the more prevalent Bourbon characteristics.
Mouthfeel is fuller than typical for style and slightly oily in the finish. Low carbonation and low heat.
    Overall, a complex gem.

Continuing on with early Winter drinking. It's been pretty cold here today, in the 40's and lower. Plus, I got the new covid vaccine yesterday and have been feeling like crap all day (that's a good thing).
This year's offering is quite good. From the label: "rich and malty with notes of caramel and a warm finish". I heartily concur. A Scotch ale, but it veers close to a quad. Very impressive for 7.5%.
