Not to encourage anyone because the whole concept is shady and IMO completely unnecessary, but theoretically if you got your hands on a keg (I know Rev and Goose kegs aren't impossible) you could adjunct in a relatively low oxygen fashion with readily available equipment. You could run the beer in a closed line through a Randall filled with the desired adjuncts and into another keg and bottle from there. Or if you wanted extended infusion times you could transfer wholesale into a keg pre-filled with adjuncts in a mesh container. Home bottling options from kegs aren't great but done with care they can last awhile, especially with these kinds of strong beers.

I mean, I don't care how "low oxygen" anything is when you're running it through some cake likely made by a teenager in a dungeon somewhere. I highly doubt these fuckboi slurries are going uninfected for five years, let alone five months.

What the hell even is the impetus behind this? People are getting tired of pastry stouts these days, and they're also pretty easy to get ahold of nationwide.

I actually went down the rabbit hole over the summer trying to find info on these guys after seeing some very out of place Untapped check-ins late August at one of my fav local food spots.

They’re a private (guessing invite only) Facebook group. They booked Soundgrowler for a tap takeover for what looks like their first annual event of that size. Check out this wild taplist, this wasn’t counting the other crazy bottle share check-ins I saw. These guys go hard. None of my IRL friends knew anything about them, I’m definitely trying to find my way in there next year haha.

I think it is just a glorified version of french pressing your own adjuncts with BCBS, with cool labels to go along with it. The develops 5 years is likely just copied because it is on the BCBS labels and isn't meant to be taken seriously. My guess is most people who buy them drink them within a month.

Having the custom label bottle to display is at least half of it IMO.

to get back on track somewhat, I prefer 2020 DBVSOD upon first taste, but I'm more than happy to see how that can change over the course of multiple cans of 2023.

2023 definitely leans sweeter for me, with a very drying, oaky finish. I recall 2020 having more balance with other flavors such as chocolate and a hint of dark fruit.

still behind VSOJ as far as favorite Rev beer, but easily a top 3-4

To add to that, I assume part of the alure is getting adjuncts you want in the specific beers you want.

God help me I want a delicious BCBS with lots of coconut.

I enjoyed my 2020 DB VSOD yesterday instead of conducting a side by side. I loved 2017 and 2020 fresh, but the 2020 can yesterday was next level, I don’t think I would have changed anything with it. I’m glad I didn’t try to drink 24 oz, my tolerance has definitely decreased over the past few years.

I’m going to Revolution tomorrow to have a draft pour of DB VSOD, in part to not deplete a precious can. I don’t seek to intentionally age stouts unless I want an aspect to mellow (heat, adjuncts). In terms of my Rev cans, I’ve just bought too many fresh over the years, and I’m glad the DW cabs have held up really well over time refrigerated in my experience.

Like you, I want to schedule a can opening over each of the next three years to note the changes for science and future releases.

Now that the bootleg adjunct free radical movement has moved to the Goose Island thread, I think it's safe to post here again...Straight Jacket is unsurprisingly fantastic this year. Caramel, cream soda, wood, some boozy bourbon and just a faint hint of chocolate to this unsophisticated palate.

It's a sign of how good the Deep Wood series is that we don't feel the need to even comment on this world class beer each release.

What would be your dream "Deth by ______(fruit)" during a year-off from Deth by Cherries be? If you're not into fruited stouts at all, totally get it, feel free to abstain.

We've done Plums, Currants 2x, and Raspberries which found their fans but tended to be a little divisive. Maybe that's unavoidable with anything outside cherries, but curious what you all would like to see some day.

My first vote would be "just release more Deth Star & skip the fruit", but that's not helpful (like most of my posts).

    How about grapes?

I think coconut counts too, right?

I personally would be curious about blueberries.

While I don't care for the flavor, I'm confident Marty could do interesting things with bananas and some of the flavors in Deth's Tar might be a well suited match.

*EDIT* Also, while I'm daydreaming, I have fond memories of Apple Brandy Ryeway and would love to see an Apple Brandy Deth's Tar and/or a Peach Brandy Straightjacket/Ryeway.

If you're ok with a totally different flavor I would try Deth by Banana. If we're sticking to berries then Huckleberry Deth.

1- Passion Fruit just because Deth by Passion would be the best name ever.
2- any of the worlds most dangerous fruits because Deth by something inherently risky makes the beer name that much cooler. If you went with fished based adjuncts, it doesn’t get much cooler sounding than Deth by Fugu.
3- Strawberries make the most sense as they pair well with chocolate notes (chocolate strawberries for example).
4-if you go the orange route, go pomegranate and orange.

    • Strawberries
    • Pomegranates
    • Kiwi
    • Pineapple

My personal top choice would be Mango, just out of curiosity.

Member berries would be fun just to mess with folks though.
