Orval is one of the best beers around to my humble opinion, yet it depends on the age when you drink it and the taste of the drinker.
Ik like the Vielles. The older ones. More nutty and profound taste.

Lagunitas Born Yesterday Fresh Hop Ale. Feeling lucky to have it. More logs to split. A task that is built for enjoying some brews. Cheers!

After a nice walk along the Mighty Mississippi River, it was on to Bent River Brewing in Moline, IL. Harvest Ale, a fresh hop pale ale featuring el dorado hops, 5% abv. $3.50 pints on Tuedays. Cheers!

Pours a very dark brown, clear, looks black and opaque in the glass; initially a very thick light brown head, dense and creamy, resolves to a more modest height yet very long lasting. Lots of cocoa on the nose with some whiskey-like notes swimming in the background. The taste amps up the aroma while adding other notes; milk chocolate and cocoa; bigger whiskey presence; likely some vanilla bean; rich sweetness. Heavy body; thick and oily on the palate; nice boozy warmth offsetting the sweetness.

A stupendous beer! One of the best feeling bodies for such a big beer. Very rich, very flavorful, just wonderful all around.

    ...thank ya kindly, Eric...

    Good Afternoon Advocates!

This NEIPA by Modestman was canned on April 6th. It is now 222 days old. It was delicious when fresh.

About ~300 days ago, I began regularly agitating each can in my stash of NEIPAs at a frequency of every 5 days.

I began with the intent to 'publish' a tongue-in-cheek scientific analysis of the results here after 6 months.

Per the above, I failed the scientific method, as my control beer was consumed during the summer.

3 of the same NEIPA/batch were required to do this properly.

So, here's what I can say anecdotally... It works!!

Here's what it looked like last Spring:

    Notes:

    • Control what you can control. Freshness at purchase and storage.
    • Only every purchase NEIPA from somewhere that religiously follows the Cold Chain principals (e.g. Tree House)
    • Never _ever_ buy this style sold at room temp.
I started with ~40 cans of various NEIPA last Spring, realizing I would not be drinking them frequently enough, and wanted to keep them from falling off.

Every 5 days, I would take each can and flip it vigorously end-over-end 10 times, replacing it upside down from its starting position for the next 5 days.

After ~300 days or so and at least 60 different beers of the style, I've not had a single NEIPA deteriorate drastically, "fall off", or necessitate a drain pour.

The key to this style's flavor, and mouthfeel, is the yeast in suspension, and to a lesser degree some hop particulate matter. My working theory is simply keeping them from ever settling to form a yeast cake at the bottom of the can.

    Cc: @TheIPAHunter , seems obligatory

Tldr; Save yourself all this trouble and just buy super fresh sauce you can consume in a short time!

    Cheers BAs!

EDIT: This beer is not only tasty, but delicious @222 days old. I'm frankly amazed.

...now you just need to calculate how many beer calories you burned flipping all those NEIPA cans...:stuck_out_tongue:

Now for a Salt & Lime Desoto Mexican Lager. The saltiest salt and lime lager I've ever had. The lime is prominent also. I'm right across the street from Lagomarcino's Confectionery. In business and family owned at this location since 1918. Cheers!

    1) Ayinger Weizenbock (7.1%):
A German Weizenbock with flavors of orange citrus, banana, bread spice, yeast. Smooth and sweet banana, bread, and orange sweetness
    versus
    2) Weihenstephaner Vitus (7.7%): A German Weizenbock with flavors of orange citrus, bread spices, cloves, banana, and yeast. (Mismatched the two beers blind)

    Winner:
    2) Weihenstephaner Vitus
: German Weizenbock Battle. Revisiting this battle from last year about this time. First is Ayinger which is ranked #4 on BeerAdvocate. Strong bready flavors, some orange and banana creamsicle and pudding notes.
Next is Weihenstephaner, ranked #2 on BeerAdvocate. More orange citrus and bread spices. A little brighter but more yeast and carbonation to balance the sweetness. Last year I preferred the Ayinger, but this year I think Weihenstephaner Vitus is indeed more rounded and complex.

Signed off from work for the day and enjoying a Celebration IPA. I was able to find a copy of this album on CD (not cheap) and listening and enjoying it now. Kind of refreshing ...

I go to Moline pretty much every year but I have not been to Bent River (but my first beer from the QCs was from them - bought at a HyVee probably). Lots of interesting breweries around there, such as Five Cities, Crawford, and Adventurous across the river in Davenport/Bettendorf.

Thanks, there’s a major difference with trying (trying as I’m mainly sketching as a pass time activity) a portrait of either a random person or a celebrity and drawing a landscape or monument like that. Both can be good and bad but a failed portrait - which has happened to me too often to count is instantly going to the bin. Landscape can be flawed or lacking details too, but generally are more consensual.

In the end, it's all good because you will typically learn something in the process. Whether you decide it's a positive or negative, it was still a process of discovery. Keep em coming, I enjoy them :sunglasses:
