Man, this is sad. I first made a visit from St Louis in 2005. Was just there last week for a Proprietor BCS. Glad I decided to pop in one last time.

My first visit to GI Clybourn was just after they opened to the public. Our waitress quit during her shift. She came over to apologize and told us the kitchen was beyond messed up and that she couldn't take it ay more.... We never got our food that night and I think they comped or beers.

My subsequent visits went much better. I will miss this spot!

 Funny. I was there within the first couple weeks they opened and I remember it being sort of hectic, but no problems with our orders -- or multiple baskets of those house-made chips!

Of course, the beer was the highlight, though I was sort of jaded from my visit to Siebens a couple years before -- great, fresh lagers there!

The time has come. 10th Dec. The Last Call beer mentioned sounds interesting.

Thanks for the update, need to get there once more. The Last Call beer sounds good.

Thought Coda 1800 may have been their last offering, is a solid Belgian Tripel if you see it on tap.

Love Adan, but not so much the Adan named beer they brought to FOBAB “The Adan Special”, though that could just be my personal preferences.

Also, their website which states head over to the Salt Shed location in 2024. I was told a few months ago (by staff not senior management) they expected a quick turnaround (within a week) between the closure of Clybourn and the opening of their Salt Shed location.

Not sure if they just decided to have a longer close due to it being seasonally slow in the Winter, one or more issues are causing delays at Salt Shed, or what I was told was just wishful thinking or just a guess.

UPDATE: The Beeranaut attended the BCBS media tasting and stated GI President Ahsmann stated they planned on keeping Clybourn open until the Spring, so it sounds as though perhaps something unexpected happened to their Clybourn lease, which was extended beyond the original end date earlier this year.

Wonder if Josh Noel got to attend the tasting this year.

OUR FINAL WEEKS ON CLYBOURN AVENUE

The Goose Island Brewhouse is One Step Closer to Moving Over to The Salt Shed

It’s official. Our last day of serving the public at the Goose Island Brewhouse (1800 N. Clybourn Avenue) is Sunday, December 10th, 2023.

Closing one chapter means beginning a new one. We’re excited to continue to brew Chicago’s Beer. This city means a lot to us. To all our friends and neighbors: we hope to have a final pint with you before we head to our new location at The Salt Shed in 2024.

LAST CALL // OUR FINAL BREW

Last Call is a celebration beer. Stop by to enjoy the last beer brewed in our original brewery before we begin our next chapter at The Salt Shed.

This beer was made by Mike Jacobs and Luis Taboada with the help of Greg Hall and former Brewhouse brewers. Last Call is a 5.4% ABV English-style bitter ale with a lightly toasted bread and toffee malt profile. It’s a new recipe inspired by some of our classics. Get it on draft now and keep your eyes peeled for an opportunity to buy a limited-release bottle.

BEER + MUSIC // OUR NEW HOME

"The minute we were approached with the opportunity to join our friends at The Salt Shed in their new venue, I was all in! Goose Island has been committed to celebrating Chicago culture and live music has always been a part of our story,” said John Hall, founder. “It really clicked in 1997 when Los Lobos played in Chicago. That show really kicked off our connection to music.” Stay tuned on our social channels for more updates on the grand opening of The Salt Shed in 2024.

    See you at the Brewhouse,

It should improve because there is no parking, it’s further from the el train, and there may be massive crowds from concerts vying for space in the bar…oh wait, that sounds awful.

There has been a near closure
2-4 times in the last 15 years every time their lease renegotiations happen.

Yeah but at least now they'll get that cool crowd of young non-craft beer fans that ABInBev so desperately wants!
