6 day weekend starts tomorrow, going with a big bottle of Fremont Brew 6000 tonight. First tried and loved this 19 months ago. Had a Brew 3000 a few months ago and it was stellar at 4 years out so I'm expecting great things here.

Now as then this is sweet but with a lot of layers, far from a sugar bomb. The flavors seem to have shifted a bit, getting a bit more molasses than I recall and some leather now. Still plenty of raisins and dates but I think less honey and more vanilla The bourbon notes are at once potent and well incorporated. Warm, mellow, and oh so smooth. I love the mouthfeel, light carbonation and a full, slightly sticky body. So damn good.

That is an awesome review Dan! Your 2015 notes are surprising- figure the SNBC QC department keeps every vintage pretty much the same! Guess it comes down to the quality of the malts and especially the hops as to how a vintage will evolve.
When living in PHX i always seem to have 4-5 year old bottles hanging around on my lower fridge shelf where the temperature was in the upper 40's. Most often i found the sweet spot for me to be 2-3 years but at heart i am a hophead!

Well it is Wednesday, I dont normally drink now, but its the end of the work week and Im about to spatchcock the turkey, so time to fuel up for that work! Cross posting this with the BSBIF#1 thread.
This is Cellarmaker Brewing our of San Francisco, CA. 16.2% ABV beer 10 Year Anniversary Barleywine, which is a blend of 20% is barleywine aged for 8 months in Savage and Cooke Lip Service Rye whiskey barrels; 30% barleywine aged for 16 months in Weller Special Reserve Bourbon barrels, 30% barleywine aged for 16 months in Stagg Jr. Bourbon Barrels; and 20% Imperial Stout aged for 25 months in Heaven Hill 10 year barrels. I gotta say I really like the label on this bottle.

Thank you to @Dimidiata for the opportunity to try this one!!

Bottle has been in my cellar since receipt and is at cellar temp before I pour it into my snifter. 12.7 fl oz bottle with 2023 vintage on the iridescent label, which is pretty cool with reflective rainbow effect.
the beer pours pretty dark for a barleywine, cola brown from the bottle and rests as a black coffee in my glass. Gotta be the 20% imperial stout in the blend.
A wispy and fizzy beige head of just above surface covering foams up and fizzles away quickly and only remains as a thin edging on my glass.
Aroma on this beer is dark roasted malts, heavy cacao chocolate, molasses, brown sugar, bourbon notes and a bit of fusol alcohol. No hints of hops on the aroma here.
First sip of this beer reveals a medium body with soft and sort of pillowy mouthfeel. Carbonation is very fine and gentle on my palate. There is a bit of stickiness on my lips after each sip.
Flavor is similar to the nose and generally sort of sweet I get chocolate, molasses, brown sugar, a good bit of bourbon and some roasted notes. Again, hops are absent here.
There is a bit of warmth that kicks back after each swallow to remind me of the 16.2% ABV. This is an enjoyable sipping beer, very glad to have tried it!

Artifice Ales & Mead Bourbon Barrel-aged Barleywine

Purchased at the brewpub last month. The bottle verbiage describes it as an English-style barleywine aged in bourbon barrels for "nearly two years", so I'm not sure exactly how long or what brand of bourbon.

Pours nearly still with no discernable carbonation. Not much in the way of hops, as expected. Syrupy viscosity. The flavor has a charred, almost tart quality. The bourbon isn't obvious except for a slight medicinal alcohol taste. The label lists 14% abv but it drinks quite easily and will probably catch up to me later!

Glad I bought this. Might need a few more over the winter.

My wife loved her meal, and I think I just had some finger food and recall enjoying it. Nice big french fries and maybe some kind of chicken. The dark mild beer was pretty spot-on too.

I just saw that the place in Mount Joy (Twisted Bine?) has a barleywine on tap. Might have to make that trip soon.

Haven't been there either but my buddy said the barleywine is solid.

Great Lakes Brewing - 35th Anniversary BA Imperial Amber.

I'm going to dub this one an honorary barleywine - a 12% abv malty boozy beer, nevermind the yeast used to ferment it. (Apologies to @zid , this is his sort of move in the style tasting threads)

Even better is that Thomas Hardy’s Ale was made with bottom-fermenting yeast at some point in its history. :beers:
(And yeah, that’s the sort of move I’d make )

Nothing. In this moment, you are better than the rest of us.

btw, does B-Bomb count as a barleywine? I drank the cinnamon/coffee one last night and it was one of the best dark beers Ive ever had. It drank like a stout, but is labeled a winter ale, which to me is more in line with barleywine

    It's a stout

It's pretty much their Winter Ale aged in Bourbon Barrels and it's also my favorite beer that Fremont makes.
    For reference..this beer:

How dare you. Winter Warmers are Stouts ... change my mind

Ive never had a barleywine that tastes like chocolate

Edit : but really though when you use Chocolate Malts in your malt bill Barleywine is out. You're a stout.

    Or an i wrong?

Yep. I say far closer to a barleywine than stout. Plenty of barleywines have chocolate notes. Admit b-wines kick ass.
