Just to clarify, the "who I care less about" was supposed to apply to both founders and investors. I agree with your points about people setting aside money to support something they believe in and should see that return/reward.

agree 100% My now ex wife broke a Hill Farmstead Teku within days of purchase. I honestly never understood Tekus. Functionally, they're destined for failure.

Side note, the coffee team might be the best of the bunch. Really great people, producing outstanding coffee in many forms.

Edit: thinking a new YouTube will drop soon.

People went crazy for them in the late 2010s, and that fad seems to have fizzled out. I remember Tree House themselves fed into this with gold and platinum logo tekus. Nowadays, a lot of places have stemless tekus for the same aesthetic without the danger of breaking if you breathe on them.

The only brewery that I visit that still uses them regularly is Hudson Valley and I like how their staff is trained to do 6/9/12 oz pours on them.

My wife found a gold Treehouse Teku at a thrift store in Enfield for like 2$. Yes, I proceeded to accidentally break it shortly after she brought it home.

A very close family member (F49) worked in Tewksbury at the bar/retail/beer pick up. She said they were paying her “around $20 an hour + tips”. She is a career bartender so she thought that would be awesome! But as she soon found out, and I tried warning her, places like this are not really set up around the tipping culture us older generations are used to. And with all tips being pooled and payments on your phone, the tips at the end of shift was laughable compared to what she makes at a busy bar down the street. But the perks were really awesome: half off retail beer sales and free staff beers. In those few months she worked there we were absolutely flush with Treehouse beers. I begged her not to quit! Haha.

So, $20 an hour is probably reasonable pay for this kind of job at a brewery. If you were a 20 something beer geek looking to get into the beer business it might be a great place to start.

    Perfect ending to the story.

MattOC also has a relative that works at one of the TH locations. He has mentioned several times in our group chats since he can't post here anymore how she gets great perks. The staff also get dinged up cans for free since they can't be sold. Too bad he can't chime in on the thread anymore.

its possible that's what started this, and he wants the REAL 2%, not just 2% of what wasn't hidden from him.

Tbh if glassware affects how a beer tastes, tekus are near the bottom of the ranks for me. I’ll take a tulip, harmony, or charente (rip) any day when I’m choosing something with a stem. I’d take a traditional pint glass over a teku.

    Durobor Charente is goat.

someone said above Hill teku, almost certain they never had a teku for glassware. I imagine they’re thinking of Hill stemware, etc., not the teku shape.

that was me, and you're right. Not being a Teku makes a lot more sense as I've always thought that shape was silly and I wouldn't have bought any. Please forgive the lapse in my memory. Dark times. The broken glass was this shape. I still have its partner (not my picture). Would repurchase this glass in a heartbeat, despite being so fragile.

I actually have one original left if this is from the 2012/13/14 ish time frame. The other was gloriously smashed off a table on the patio during a fire years back. Was told they’d never be made again.

As far as I can tell, Durobor stopped making that shape entirely. Unfortunate as I tried to buy a case of blank ones (it really is one of the great beer glasses ever) and apparently was a year or two too late.

Short stems for life, IMO. Tall stemmed glasses are temporary works of art, but temporary nonetheless.

Is there a “who went where” for former TH brewers? Deciduous, I think? Picked up a 4 pack of an IPA today.

Since they don’t make that one anymore it sells for quite a bit on eBay. I barely use it anymore for this reason.

It looks like Equilibrium has them unless this is a knockoff.

There's a company in Toronto that appears to still make the same shape. https://zenan.ca/products/charente/
