Sure, but again, if it’s not your thing then it’s not your thing. Eventually you figure out which breweries excel at barrel aging and you gravitate to them. Just not sure what can be gained by griping about it.
I guess. I don’t even know if I’ve had any of the styles you mention here, because they all sound disgusting. People are free to choose not to drink certain types of beer too. Brewers will stop making these beers if people stop paying money for them.

Well, I made it a point that I think many beers are handled with heavy hands. Damned if I was griping. It was an opinion. Accept it or not!

I agree, but it can get really hard to know if a brewery excels when you ask for a sample before paying $23 for 22oz, and they say "no, but you can buy a 5oz pour for $8".

Sure, and I made it a point that if you don’t like it, don’t buy it. Fool me once, shame on you and all that.
If only there was a website with thousands of beer ratings and reviews that gave you a reasonably good idea about what you were thinking about buying before you decide to pull the trigger.

Now if you’ll both excuse me, the Seahawks are playing the 49ers. Cheers and happy Thanksgiving!

You really don't have a clue what I think. I never said I don't buy them. I taste a great number of beers that I am given and sent I had a very long career in the beverage industry in many capacities. I am no fly by night rookie. I resent your tone. My original post was full of equanimity. You are very mistaken about my intent. But I do hate sour mash Whisky. Merry Thanksgiving

I've kinda given up on buying barrel-aged beers (bottles or pours) that I can't get a taste of first. More often than not, they just taste like you're licking a barrel. Too much wood, too much booze.

Private Press is the nectar of the gods. If I had that kind of money and a higher tolerance I’d sip those delights more than (check notes) once a year.

Right now? Enjoying some Melancholia courtesy of a sibling’s visit to the Veil.

To be completely transparent i only tried Private Press once at Toronado. I looked it up and it was pretty close to 5/5

One sip and i hated it. It was a syrupy mess . Tasted like prune juice with mosquito water

I like the ashtray taste. Balances out the sweetness.
Then again, I always tried to use some black patent in my porters/stouts, because I wanted that.

This website is chaos. It's basically a couple of brothers that are benevolent dictators that allow an autistic oligarchy dictate to each other their completely anarchic subjective taste for an intoxicant.
Say what you want about the BJCP, but at least there are some rules about judging something.

I’ll kindly refer you back to my first response. In that context, please feel free to consider this website a product.

Problem is, this is the best we've got for consumers to go off of. It's a perfect encapsulation of the moment.
I don't have any answers, I just know that things could be better.

I hear you. I still think if you take the time to read a decent sample of reviews on here you can form a reasonably accurate idea of what a given beer is like.
