I liked it. It tasted fine . I had to look up diacetyl, though!:grimacing:

Good to hear. Been a while since I've bought some and I'm overdue to get some tasty local porter.

It’s quite viscous, at least the 6 pack I got at Wegmans in Collegeville, but it’s quite pleasant, and at $8.99 I thought it was a good deal! Enjoy!

Enjoying a Founders Vanilla Porter, 6.5% - have a great weekend, you legends! :beers:

-Look: Beautiful creamy tan head over a deep, dark brown body.
-Aroma: Vanilla first then chocolate swirling, charred malts, mild coffee.
-Taste: Chocolate and vanilla combine nicely, mild coffee and charred malts.
-Feel: Creamy smooth, medium and slick, finishes coffee-bitter.
-Overall: Delicious vanilla and chocolate combo, a solid robust porter.

If I were V.P. of Labeling, I'd have kept the Dark, Rich, & Sexy lady from the Porter label, and put a big vanilla flower in her hat. Then I'd give myself a well-deserved raise. Cheers! :beers:

Was shocked to see this Ridgeway beer back in the US! It's been many years. I wanted to take one home despite the ridiculous price on it. It was a treat to revisit, but not such a treat that it's something I will repeat anytime soon (unless I see it at a much lower price in a different store). I figured the label art was a medieval marginalia swipe... and a quick search makes it look like I was right. @Resistance88 - with your interest in calligraphy and backsides, medieval marginalia is something you should look into.

...I just love this imperial porter...I wouldn't call it rare around my neck of the woods, but I'd certainly like to see it more often...

I REALLLY REALLY hate that the woman on there wasn't dark, rich and sexy. Really made a horrible label, but i think we all found out why :poop::popcorn:

Last night I had a Cozy by Treehouse. Smooth drinking 9.2% porter that embraces its malty char. Cheers.

Been really digging Old Ox Black Ox since the weather turned cool around here. I like how the rye dries it out.

Follow up, great beer. Not as roasty as I remember. But it does . have a solid diner coffee note to it. I need to do this side by side with another NW porter and see how it affects my perception. Definitely glad to see it back on the shelves and hope this September batch makes the rounds.

This is a sweet caramel tasting Baltic Porter. Sweeter than a typical version, but enjoyable.

Founders Porter vs. Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter
I bought these two porters last spring just to revisit the style which has been a favorite since forever. I overlooked drinking them and they made their way to the back of the beer fridge. Consequently, both are 'aged' but still very tasty. (The Founders Porter has a Bottled-on date of 11/03/22 and the Eddy Fitz has a Best-by date of 06/26/23.) The Founders Porter has an abv of 6.5% and IBUs of 45, and the Eddy Fitz has an abv of 6.0% and IBUs of 37.

Both poured with about the same amount of head, and the Founders beer had a slightly darker color. Both heads receded at about the same rate to a perimeter ring with some floating , and both had similar lacing. Right from the fridge both had a nearly identical aroma, taste and mouthfeel, so I waited until they warmed and began to show some differences before any further evaluation.

Neither beer really had much of a roastiness, but maybe there was a very slight amount in the GL beer. Except for that slight roastiness in the Eddy Fitz, they continued to smell and taste the same as they warmed. The only difference that I began to notice with the warming was the thinner mouthfeel from Eddy. However, that made enough of a difference for me so that the Founders Porter is my preferred beer of these two.

At the now three month old Chicago Guinness. Trying my first go at a beer they brew here.

    Brewpub Notes:
$9 16 oz draft, 5.6% ABV, Porter with Intelligentsia Coffee.

Appearance: Tulip glass pour. Near pitch black base, slow roll tan carbonation seen through the sides. Creamy tan head leaves no trace. 4.25

Aroma: Really strong dark roast dominates the proceedings. Not getting the base, but the coffee smells delicious. 4.0

Taste: Pure coffee here is well. I really enjoy the bitter roast coffee, but needs to be balanced to enjoy the porter. Like a prostitute drenched in perfume. Coffee dials back a little bit after warning, but grasping at milk chocolate from the base. 3.75

Mouthfeel: Light and easy drinking, mild dryness. No balance, all coffee no Porter, to the end. 3.25

Overall: If you are looking for a coffee with a splash of Porter, order this one. If you are looking for a Porter or balanced coffee porter, order something else. I enjoyed because I like coffee, but drinker beware. 3.5

I don't believe Revolution is releasing the Coffee version of their Eugene Porter this season. The Peanut Butter version is a hard pass for me (love peanut butter, but many times including the Revolution version it tastes artificial). This held up (taste, coffee, everything) well at just over a year in the refrigerator.

In at least one previous year they released three different versions from three different local Chicago Coffee Brewers, but for the vintage I'm enjoying it is all Dark Matter Coffee and I'm loving it. Nicely dry, coffee in the proper measure. Giddy Up!

You may want try this experiment again with fresher examples as I find them to be very different beers. To me, GLEF leans more on the chocolate roast and sweetness and is hoppier. Founders has more of an acrid coffee roast and higher in IBU's.

    Both great beers.

Given your descriptions, I'd probably like the Eddie Fitz better. Someday I'll try again with fresher beers, and then I'll know for sure. Thanks for the feedback.
