Nice. I drank my last bottle of 2013 initial batch back in 2018. Such a great beer. Have you had any of the more recent releases since they switched to the 500ml bottles?

This is pretty good. Never heard of it or the brewery before but grabbed it off Tavour. Nice oak from the barrel and some piney resin

My inconsistent labelling simply matches their inconsistent labelling!

Honestly I haven't done a very good job of recording my intervals, so I don't have a good answer to this :/
THe only one I can verify based on my charting is one that was ~a year old, and it was a bit smoother and creamier than the fresh, but I could imagine that it would continue in that direction for a couple few years. Can't verify that, though. It sounds like there is science that needs to be done!!

Undead Apumpalyptica Pecan from Wiley Roots Brewing. Barleywine brewed with Pecan and Pumpkin Spices including Allspice, Cinnamon, and Nutmeg. Comes in at 11% ABV.

Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours black with almost zero head. Very low carbonation in general. The nose is spice! Pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, and chocolate. Not overly appealing for a barleywine, but what the heck!

The taste is actually fantastic. The spice profile is a bit different from the nose. Almost some heat here. More cinnamon, some chocolate, roasted malts, and a bunch of pecans. Very intense flavors. Nice overall with a thick mouthfeel.

Thanks, Dan! It's good to be home, although I'm completely wiped out and I caught something on the way home. Not COVID, thankfully.

11 is a good number, but I no longer exclude any! Just snagged a DB VSOD at 17.9 :astonished:

haha! I thought you were poking me about my negative comments toward high ABV beers!

Let's pick a number and launch boxes when we both hit it!

Can’t get images to work right now but -
Wild Mind Ales - Terror Bird aged in peach brandy barrels
It opened with the weakest, faintest “veh”, not even managing a “f” sound. But this was more carbonation than the apple brandy version, and even that little bit made a huge difference in the beer. Syrupy, but less syrupy, and full of glimpses of how good it could be.
That said, it disappeared as quickly as its bubbles.

Sitting in this almost a year. Slotted as enjoy by 1-24 on the label. Hoppy , might pass as an IPA if blind tasted. It’s ok but would not buy again, especially at $16 a six.

Got an email from Forest and Main about a new BA BW. If I can get there this weekend I will give it a go.

    Enjoy

Revolution '23 Ryeway to Heaven (Ryewine aged in rye whiskey barrels). I'm a big fan of this one year in and year out and was fortunate to come across some tonight while "Christmas shopping".

Pours a rich, dark mahogany color with a finger of a dark khaki head that sticks around for a little bit and then dissipates into a thin ring of lacing.

Aroma is rich caramel, maple, brown sugar, creme brûlée, raisins, figs, rye spice, brown bread, oak tannin. Fresh and forward rye whiskey, some vanillin and coconut come from the barrel.

Taste follows the nose well. Big barrel, as this is only 6 weeks old. Sugar Daddies candy, caramel, creme brûlée, big maple, big rye spice both from the base and barrel, caramelized brown sugar, raisin, fig, plum, brown bread, oak tannin, significant rye whiskey flavor, some vanillin, slight coconut, some leather. Amazing balance between decadent sweetness and rye spice/oak tannins/whiskey dryness.

Full body. Rich and decadent, but with a drying oak tannin and rye spice. Slick, oily, sticky, slightly creamy, and dense.

Just another example of how talented Revolution is when it comes to their barrel program. Just outstanding balance between the sweet characteristics of the beer (and there’s plenty) and the big rye spice/oak tannin/rye whiskey characteristics. This one is one of my favorites of the Deep Wood Series each year. Revolution's quality and local availability may not be matched when it comes to barrel aged beer.
