    Love the thread idea @beergoot!

I have quite a few openers, but this one is probably my favorite/gets the most use..

Was gifted to me by the lovely Mrs muchloveforhops3 for our 11th wedding anniversary (as one might suspect given the engraving ). Solidly-crafted, opens with a ridiculous amount of smoothness, and keeps the caps intact :beers:

I'd say this one is the next most heavily used in the arsenal:

Was included in a box from @beerbeerbeerbeer (if I remember right) many years ago. Has yet to let me down!

This was my grandfather's and it somehow escaped the vultures after my grandmother passed and we eventually bought the house. I can picture many Ballantines and Carling Black Labels bring opened. I also can't believe it survived, with one side essentially unscathed, because grampy used to plant "field beers". Literally. He buried beers at the end of veggie rows so he could keep refreshed. So strongly sentimental but the thread inspired me to look up Harvard Beer and find quite an amazing slice of MA history.

Can’t go wrong with the simplicity of the flat bartender’s bottle opener which is why I’ve probably never felt the need to spend money on an upgrade.

I will say bottle openers that I find fascinating are:
-the ring with a bottle opener on it, less weird than whipping out a bottle opener from your pocket at a party.
-the ridiculously over the top bottle axes that look like they would destroy the bottle before popping the top off.
-the 12” carved wooden phalluses with a bottle opener on the end that they sell all over Greece in tourist shops. Would imagine that would get a lot of interesting reactions if you put that out by the bottled beer at a party.

Yeah, as they say: been there, done that. It's a make-it--or-break-it kinda thing. If that bottle cap doesn't come clean off, you ain't gonna get a second chance.

You don't have to ask how I figured this out.

...haven't done it in ages, but I also liked the utility of the sharp edge of a coffee table / work bench / kitchen counter / picnic table / block of wood and a judicious smack of the cap with your hand...

...many a bottle of Stroh's and Genny pounder bottles were opened this way back in my Ohio days...

I once went to a graduation party with some friends and got there early, only to find several cases of beer, no hosts, and no opener. After using a quarter to pry the tops off, I made up my mind I'd never be caught flat-footed again.

It seemed like a good idea at the time, anyway. :sunglasses:

At the top, Ampfelmann, the ubiquitous symbol for crosswalks in Berlin anthromorohized into a bottle opener, purchased in Berlin at the Champions League final , that’s my favorite!

I purchased a Blitz Weinhard bottle popper belt buckle after a late-70s tour at the brewery. Photos at:

Perfect for the non-twist returnable stubbies that were ubiquitous after the introduction of the deposit law. It would still be constant companion if my belt hadn't shrunk so much.

Not that boring! We had a cheap knockoff of this type of opener. It broke apart when trying to open a firmly fixed cap.

I have several that I consider my favorites - kind of a toss up on my # 1 - between the Anchor Brewing titanium opener or the Einstok battle ax one - being a Viking, you know!

These homemade ones live on my beer fridge and have seen quite a bit of use. Especially the spike antler, I put that one together @ 15 years ago.

But the one that has seen the most work for the last 18+ years is the trusty and ever present, titanium wedding band.

Keep this on my keyring. Got it at a Hank III show in 2006. I've pretty much wore out the teeth and it struggles to open a beer on the first go.
