On to The Lamb and Flag, a pub dating back to 1695.

Dazzle Razzle by Little Ox Brewery, a local brewery. They're calling this a DIPA at 7.1% hmmm. Even so it's very good. Lovely lingering bitterness.

 

If you squint, across the road opposite you can see The Eagle and Child, which is currently closed for refurbishment. Tolkien apparently wrote some of Lordx of the Rings there.



Anyways, next beer. A proper DIPA. Big Bella by Two Flints.

 

Your photos make me nostalgic of my 7 years living in the UK (first northern Wales and then Scotland). Didn't drink much back in those days so I missed out on a lot of good stuff (especially cask).

It was also the meeting place of The Inklings, a writers’ group that included Tolkien, CS Lewis, and others. They discussed and workshopped each other’s work. Definitely on my bucket list.

 

By car, shuttle, plane, train and foot, after 23 hours I’m sitting in Cloudwater’s London taproom drinking a pint of “Happy”, a session pale ale “NE style”:
