I usually pour my beer into a glass. However I sometimes drink out of a can. I almost never drink out of a bottle. Don't ask me why, because I don't know.

I’m the opposite. I usually don’t drink out of the can unless I’m camping and it’s Coors or Rainier or something!

I agree with this post but have always been curious about the effects of aging/cellaring in a bottle vs can. Are there any studies that show how one might differ from the other or not at all?

Yeah, in NJ, as @zid noted, the state's recycling newsletter says:
Obviously, this does not apply everywhere and if you take cans direct to a scrap metal dealer, it wouldn't matter (they probably prefer it). (I've also seen towns that ask that broken bottles also not be put into curbside recycling containers.)

Note that NJ link also mentions another topic previously discussed here re: aluminum can recycling:

I like drinking out of bottles more than cans, like the portability and packability of cans, and can’t stand when a drop a glass bottle of a good beer (it’s happened). So I think I like glass bottles with a pop off, and cans, more than the other choices. If I had to pick one, I’d pick bottles.

To me, something feels wrong about canned Zombie Dust.

It doesn't taste as good either, but that's another issue.

There is an old thread that talks about the difference because ZD is canned if brewed at Three Floyds new brewing facility, but at the old brewery they still use old brewing equipment and it still goes into bottles. I don't know if this arrangement still exists, but it made sense back then.

Sorry for the thread disruption. Now back to the scheduled show.

I used to toss my bottle caps into an old glass Pabst Blue Ribbon pitcher that I kept on top of my fridge and it would get filled regularly. That pitcher is now just gathering dust in the basement. I think Summit and Schells, along with Fulton, might be the only Minnesota breweries still bottling.

Sounds like NJ needs to upgrade their recycling systems if taxpayers are paying for an inferior recycling service that can’t handle crushed cans leading to them not doing what they are being paid to do- recycle recyclable materials rather than them going into a land fill. Maybe this is why NJ is regarded as America’s trash state.

No swivel top bottle option in the questionnaire?
    Those are my favorite.
Unfortunately, not much good beer is available in those anymore.
If I'm drinking it from the packaging vessel, I definitely prefer a glass bottle, but if I'm pouring it into a glass, I really don't care as much, although if I have a choice, I'd go for the pop off top bottle. I agree that the can does affect the taste somewhat.
I did a blind tasting with Yuengling Black and Tan in both bottle & can.
I only identified the can beer properly once, so any off flavor from the can is probably more in my head than anything, but drinking from a can is a less than stellar experience.
I do but cans often, as they are usually cheaper, better for the environment and I get money for recycling them.
Plus, pounder cans are much easier to find than 16oz bottles these days.
Bring back the 16oz returnable bottles!

You should let your neighbors in Illinois know about that, too.
Also, the folks up in Rochester, MN ...as well as alerting Matt Meenan, the senior director of public affairs at the Aluminum Association.

Modern aluminium drink cans have an inner layer that prevents the metal from affecting the taste. Does Coke or any other soft drink from a can taste of aluminium to you as well? Although I do have a soft spot for 750ml bottles, cans are clearly the superior vessel for beer as they protect it much better from light and oxygen, the two worst enemies of beer. Not to mention that they are lighter and much easier to transport and store.

And this is coming from someone from Germany, where beer cans still have a very bad reputation and most people prefer drinking from bottles. I still remember seeing craft beer cans back then and thinking I would never buy craft beer from a can, that just can't be good quality. Seems so ridiculous now that I have overcome my prejudices and cans are the dominant vessel for craft beer in Germany and all over the world.

    Touche!

These towns need to stop being cheap and start demanding better recycling programs that can handle crushed cans. Not crushing cans is worse for the environment and more expensive for taxpayers (or is more likely why they haven’t upgraded -more profitable for waste management companies).

Glass, glass, glass. I've always had the superstition that cans affected the taste, and this was born out by a recent (unscientific) experience with Unibroue "La Fin du Monde" which I bought as a 4x. The canned version had notes of rubber and other unpleasant flavors.
