Generally speaking, either go early (like at opening) or later at night (7 or 8pm) is my 2 cents if you want to avoid traffic. But know that traffic can be bad anytime of day, so check Waze before you go.

Traffic would be best right after they open or on the weekends. But AFAIK it's never so busy you wouldn't want to be there. Pick a day with a good food truck is my advice. They have them posted on their web site.

@OGShotzy I suggest you take the Silver Line from downtown LA and uber near the closest stop .
    1) You'll save money on the Uber
    2) Less traffic cuz it has it's own lane

    Then Uber Back.

fuck going there from DTLA . I've only been there twice and you eventually hit hellish traffic no matter what. You should also hit HpB and Homage since you'll be in Downtown LA (my 2 cents)

Thanks for all the tips. Highland Park and Homage are definitely on my radar. If the timing doesn’t work out to get to Torrance, I may just have a case delivered to my hotel.

As someone who lived in DTLA and worked near Monkish, there's no good time of day to do that drive in an Uber. Best bet is like Resistance88 said to take the Silver Line bus to the Harbor Gateway stop or the Blue Line train (now called the A Line I think) to the Del Amo station and Uber over. On the way home, you can check the traffic to see whether Uber is better than the train/bus.

Im a personal vehicle FUCK YES it is ,but a lot of Uber drivers don't use it and there's no option to select a FasTrak driver.

I make the drive from DTLA to Monkish on nearly a weekly basis. At opening or later in the evening is the way to go. 15-20 min ride without FastTrack.

I'm probably late to the party here for your work trip, but if not you should also look at going to the Anaheim location and take the metro. Amtrak or Metrolink will take you from Union Station to Fullerton or Anaheim and then you're just grabbing an Uber for a couple miles instead of for the whole drive in traffic on the freeway.

Looks like Monkish is doing free beer shipping in CA through the end of the year :+1:

I did not make it to Monkish, but I did get a case shipped to my hotel only a few days into the trip. It has treated me well. I checked out Highland Park and homage which were both very cool in different ways.

That was a good move. Everything about Monkish is awesome, but their main location isn't all that impressive so you didn't miss much.

To the best of my recollection, $18.50 for 4oz of Triple Oaked Life Sized is the priciest pour I’ve ever come across.

If I remember correctly Moksa ELD was $20 for a small pour. Not sure though

That would have been my priciest pour as well, had I not been at Toppling Goliath for the KBBS event earlier this month. $20.01 for a 4 oz. pour! No idea why they had to add the $0.01. $20 seems like plenty.

I'm glad I got the Triple Oaked Life Sized. I may not get it again if I have the chance, but in the long run, I won't miss the $18 I spent on it.

Question for you Monkish fans out there, and I ask this as someone who considers Monkish my favorite brewery: Is anyone else getting Galaxy overload from their beers? There's hardly a beer on their list that doesn't have Galaxy as a hop addition, and even those with multiple hops (Foggier Window, as a recent example, with Citra, Nelson, Mosaic, and Galaxy), are Galaxy dominant. Feeding Pigeons: Galaxy dominant, which was disappointing as Nelson is one of the additions. I know Monkish can kill with a Nelson-hopped beer, as they do with Hang My Boots. And their all Citra beers may be among their most popular. So what gives with all the Galaxy beers?

I learned my lesson, they all end up tasting the same, Green Cheek is where it's at.

One thing I can always count on from Monkish that is nice, since I don't live in the area and only get to visit a few times a year, is that they always have 5 or 6 different DIPAs/TIPAs available on tap. However, as you say, when they all end up tasting the same, the number of IPAs becomes irrelevant.

Green Cheek has indeed been killing it, and I'm glad I got to be out there when they had both Swim Test and Just Two Things: Citra and Nelson, available. The prior week was scarce for anything beyond a regular IPA. Also nice bonus that the Costa Mesa location had Chopped and The Dank Vault from North Park as guest taps. I was lucky to be at Green Cheek during Christmas 2021 when Just One Thing: Nelson was on tap. Possibly my favorite DIPA ever. Have yet to time a visit since where it was available.
