We're about ten days away from the end of the year. I've been spending part of my days off catching up on the lengthy list of beer review notes that I've let get away from me the past few months. It got me wondering how my beer stats were shaping up for the year, and how they'll change as the end of the year approaches.

    Current YTD:
    Total reviews: 215
    Highest Score: 4.72
    Lowest Score: 3.37
    Average Score: 4.09
Missouri Beers Reviewed: 124 (57.67% of my total reviews so far)
Kansas Beers Reviewed: 35 (16.28% of my total reviews so far)

    2022 Stats:
    Total reviews: 451
    Highest Score: 4.96
    Lowest Score: 3.2
    Average Score: 4.15
Missouri Beers Reviewed: 191 (42.35% of my total reviews so far)
Kansas Beers Reviewed: 23 (5.10% of my total reviews so far)

A few years ago, I set the goal of getting KS into my top five (ideally, top three) rated beer states since I live so darn close. Truth be told, I didn't really make an effort to follow up on that beer goal (2022?) but took up the goal these past few months. Even with the push the last few months to get it there, it's still just outside my top five most rated states by three beers.

What are your beer stats so far? Do you anticipate them to change much in the next ten days?
What beer stats do you track?
Did you achieve your 2023 beer goals? If not, will you be putting in the effort this last ten days to get there?
What's the most interesting beer you've drank this year? Is that your top rated beer?

I track on Untappd , I have not even looked at my year in review they sent out. I have no beer goals, ever. It’s beer, and nothing more.

A few top beers from Forest and Main this year.

    Dance Money
    ESB
    Dark Lager
    Above and below, most interesting

    Enjoy

I like beer stats. I’ll have to dig into mine later.

Anyone know some good tricks for sorting your reviews etc by year/style/state all at the same time? Or is this the point where exporting the data set comes in handy?

I was wondering the same thing, it seems to be Untappd helping out with that and BA doesn’t have such features.

There's currently no support for multi-option sorting/filtering. It would require some significant adjustments to my legacy code, which isn't feasible at the moment.

Untappd just told me that this year i checked in 62 beers as opposed to 421 in 2022 . 359 less.

Next year the goal is 0 .

You're doing a helluva great job if that is your goal, but that's not the spirit of this site. C'mon, change your ways. You need a new New Years resolution.

Figured as much. Ok data-analysis types, what’s the easiest way to pull your stats by year? Without scrolling screen by screen, that is.

I'm thinking the way the page is coded that screen by screen is the only available option. There was talk of an export function a while back but IIRC, that hasn't been made available yet.
@Todd - might it be possible to allow for more than 50 per page? That, I think, would require far less code change.

@elNopalero Maybe you've already tried this, but on a desktop/laptop you can drag your cursor across the data fields on each page of your BA beer stats listing and then do a copy/paste into a spreadsheet. Unfortunately the field that contains the Beer Name, Brewery and Style will remain in the same data field for each beer on the spreadsheet, thus is only sortable by the beer name. The individual sub-fields can be broken apart in the composition window on the spreadsheet and then copy/pasted into empty adjacent columns/fields on the spreadsheet, but it's a lot of busy work. Then these fields will be sortable.

It's cumbersome to do this for multiple pages as you work your way down the spreadsheet, but @Whyteboar's suggestion for 50 beer records per BA page would make it a little easier.

It would be great if the smart people behind BA would add a stats section for users

I hope to have roughly 10 additional new beers this year. Here is so far:

    Current
    New beers rated/reviewed 474
    Highest 4.75
    Lowest 2.94

186 new beers this year, 85 of them barleywines. Probably no more new ones this year, whole house has covid:rolling_eyes:

    Highest, Kane's Double Double Cask 2023 4.93

Lowest, 14th Star Brewing Co's Maple Breakfast Stout 2.08

Most interesting was probably Free Will's Ralphius, 3 year whiskey and hoodoo liqueur barrel aged. Or maybe one of Tree House's uniquely barrel aged barleywines?

Overall average is 3.98, this has gone up a little in the last year.

No goals set, so none met. It was a good beer year.

New beers rated or reviewed: 112 and I’d bet there will be a handful more in the next few days. This is down significantly from say 3-5 years ago.

i didn’t rate a single beer over 4.5 this year but rated about a dozen in the 4.4s - the most memorable of which was called “togarinn” a barrel aged stout I encountered at brothers brewery in the Westman Islands of Iceland this summer. I was floored by its quality and deliciousness and the fact that it was made in such an unexpected and beautiful place.

lowest rated beer was To Ol “mine is bigger than yours” Barleywine, which wasn’t horrible, but I did rate it 3.1 or something and ultimately couldn’t finish the bottle; it was mildly infected and just off. One doesn’t want a sour cherry Barleywine.

I try hard not to buy or drink bad beer and feel I’m an educated consumer (sym’s best customer) so my biggest thumbs down of the year goes to epic and their ludicrous big bad Baptist barrel strength variant, but really it could be any of the “rare” release (lol) dreck they churn out annually and charge through the nose for. That one was the straw that broke the back and ensures I will never pay for another of their thoroughly mediocre stouts. Do you ever get on beer streaks? Like you have a few days where everything is f*^*king amazing and your love for beer is just born anew? And then you get on a bad streak and you’re like, what the hell am I even doing here? BBB bowel strength fell one of those latter streaks.

back to stats I finally ticked a happoshu this year!

As some of you are aware, I'm the kind of geek that keeps an excel sheet about his beer consumption, so I can offer you some insanely detailed data on my alcoholism beer drinking habits.

    Here are some highlights.

I consumed a total of 14686oz, meaning just over 3.7 barrels, in the form of 1266 individual beer servings. Of these, 815 beers were unique, and 698 were new to me. All these beers came from 400 breweries of which 200 were new breweries to me. A total of 34 countries and 34 states (if you include DC).

    Most consumed beers:
    Heady Topper: 1629.5oz
    Sip Of Sunshine: 580oz
    Focal Banger: 400oz
    Celebration: 246oz

    Most consumed breweries :
    The Alchemist: 2177
    Lawson's: 714
    Forest and Main: 531
    Human Robot: 477
    Russian River: 416

    Most Consumed styles:
    IPA: 3250oz
    DIPA: 3201oz

I will stop here before anyone blocks me for being too much of a nerd.

...if I sorted and eye-balled things correctly on my BA beers data:
    • 490 new beers
    • Highest rated new beer -- Toppling Goliath - Kentucky Brunch Brand Stout (4.69)
    • Lowest rated new beer: Conservative Dad (Ultra Right Beer) -- Ultra Right (2.0)
...plus I got all 50 / 51 states (BA counts Washington DC as a state), I finally ticked AR and WV to fulfill that goal (thanks to @DoctorZombies and, vicariously, @russpowell for helping me with that mission)...
