Bock Thread (2023)

Good comparison...never thought of that one but I see it...Shiner is definitely not a traditional bock...maybe along the lines of the old bocks in the 70's that all the midwest breweries put out...

 

Not even close. I used to seek out those 70s Bocks each spring and loved all I could find.

I have given Shiner Bock quite a few chances over the years and finally gave up because I just can't stand the flavor. Sad, too, because many of Shiner's specialty brews have been very good.

New Glarus' Uff-Da is a pretty good example of those old time regionals I used to find.

Interesting thoughts and good to know...those 70's bocks were before my time but assumed they were just basic dark lagers like in recent times...

I've got 12 of Uff Da coming my way this week and looking forward to it although I always considered that more along the lines of Schell Bock rather than say Leinie Bock or Point Bock...

 

Zap maybe behind as Uff da and Back 40 Bock are both on the shelves now

Me I'm into Lakefront Brewer's Reserve Honey Bock lately. This stuff is addicting. But it's too sweet for somepeople

 

It probably is close to Schell -- but not Leinie's. And I haven't had Point in forever.

Back in the regional days Rhinelander and Augsburger were go-to Bocks and Uff-Da always reminds me of them.

 

It's like May here in December!

This is an excellent Weizenbock. Smooth and creamy.
