Looks like this Winters release of Nugget Nectar is hitting parts of Pennsylvania today.

    From their social media post:

Any word on Double Nugget Nectar? Will it be released this year? I haven't been able to find info but didn't quite look all that hard.

I have not seen anything either. I feel like last year they waited until mid way through the NN state releases to tease the release of Double Nectar

Yes, my question. Last year, I drove several multi-hour round trips to scoop it up fresh.

@The_Kriek_Freak @JayORear actually it looks like on Troegs' original post about NN last week, a few people asked about Double in the comments and Troegs replied "Soon"

Thanks for hunting down the info! It's somewhat funny that I'm asking about it as I was not exactly in love with the beer last year. But it is a hot trading commodity!

Their website, under "Events", says Double NN is scheduled for January 22.

"Available in 16-oz. cans and draft everywhere Tröegs is sold."

Never had it and don't like jumping through hoops for beer, so I'll be happy if I find some in the store this season.

If you're in SEPA it was easy for me to get last year and could be found at many of the places that were selling regular NN.

I remember it was distributed last year but I never saw it. Don't remember how hard I looked, to be honest.

Looking forward to all the posts about Nugget Nectar batch variation.

Giant got a decent amount last year so they may be a good bet again this year.

RE: batch variation I was going to mention that also :stuck_out_tongue: But I have experienced it and like many of the once a year hoppy beers I don't think it's outside of the realm of possibility, especially between formats.

Are you referring to bottles vs. cans? If so, do you think one format is 'better' than the other?

It has been quite a while since I have purchased Nugget Nectar since for my last purchase that beer had zero, and I do mean zero, hop aroma (and the beer was less than a month old). This beer is too pricey to play 'Russian Roulette' for me.

    Cheers!

Am I wrong in remembering that Nugget Nectar in the past wasn't released until February?

I found the bottles to be "fuller" and with a better aroma but I do find that to be the case with many beers that come in the same format.

Yeah late Jan./early Feb. in the past.

For New Jersey, yes. From Troeg's website FAQ page:

But it seems like probably this schedule is going to be a couple weeks earlier for each distribution area this year.

    Thanks for the reminder.
Living in central MD and working in northern VA. I will definitely be looking for it in February.
As far as batch variance, I thought last year was particularly good but it may just be me, I honestly can’t say.

2017 was the last time I bought this beer. I did have a few from a sixtel in 2018 and thought it was good. 2017 I bought a single and thought it was very bitter and too much caramel, it was a fresh bottle. 2016 seems to be when this beer lost it for me. 2013 seems to have been my favorite, I bought 3 cases that year. Looking back at my notes I have too many “not the same beer”, bland, where are the hops” comments that I do not need to revisit unless it’s handed to me. This has happened once. For the price of this beer I just can’t make a purchase till I hear overwhelming “Wow, this beer is back”.

    Enjoy

Make sure you get a batch number (or best by date and bottle/can format) before making that purchase. Nugget Nectar every year is a roller coaster. :grimacing:

    Cheers!

Troeg's release schedule for Md. always used to piss me off. This was back when I lived in the Baltimore area. Like I was going to wait till frickin February to buy what was then my favorite East Coast made beer. So I would just make regular forays up to SEPA.

Back in the day, before the brewery moved to Hershey, there would be various soft release events around the Harrisburg area in late December. I would try to drive up to as many of them as I could. This would have been back in 2010 or 2011. Bit of a drive, but I thought the beer was worth the trip.

Lot of good memories about this beer. Yes, I remember some of the batch variation problems (especially when they first moved to Hershey and tried to pretend they had no idea what consumers were complaining about), but I prefer to remember the positive experiences.

Still remember the year Max's in Fells Point reputedly bought every keg of NN that came into Maryland (as a result, you could still buy it on draft there over Thanksgiving weekend), and the year Troeg's did a small, limited batch in August so they could enter it at the GABF (it was an absolute treat to drink NN out of a firkin in August). When I first moved to Baltimore, my then local (Sean Bolan's in Federal Hill), tried to get Troeg's to let them serve NN year round. At the time, Sean Bolan's didn't have a dedicated tap handle, other than Guinness, but decided to change that policy due to the popularity of NN. We were all heartbroken when we learned it was a seasonal, and that Troeg's wouldn't be able to supply the beer year round. Ah well...

    Lot of great memories...

John, that was the part of it that pissed me off the most. Sure, the fact they could not produce Nugget Nectar consistently from batch to batch was annoying/disappointing but to think that their customers were crazy (or some other similar word) was unconscionable IMO.

    Cheers!
