DC/MD/NoVA Beer Updates (2024)

Heavy Seas bringing out a new beer for the new year, their Triple Cannon IPA (13%). Release date set for Jan 26th.

 

That’s well into barleywine territory at 13%. I’ll be looking for it for sure.

 

Mentioned this right at the end of 2023 thread but new brewery in Frederick (brewer coming over from Sapwood). Had WestCoast and the 2 lighter NEIPAs and all were quite solid. I’m sure they’ll have some new additions soon. Worth checking out if in the area.

Sad news — Craft Beer Cellar DC is closing on 1/9.

 

What a loss. I don't know where I will go now for craft beer. I lived within walking distance.

 

That is (was) my favorite bottle shop in DC. Real bummer to see them go.

 

Lagunitas Willettized is out. They put it in six packs this year. Less than 15 bucks at TW

 

I mean not a big surprise given all the other CBC stuff. I assume this means more than a rebrand.

 

Yeah, a big loss. This doesn’t leave many great places for buying craft beer in DC proper. (Magruder’s has been upping their game as of late, though)

 

Harry’s Reserve used to be pretty good as well, though I haven’t been there in awhile.

 

Although I'm not local to DC my SIL lives fairly close by and I always stopped in during visits.

This seems to be another downward craft beer trend, our area (Norfolk/HR) just had our best independent bottleshop close this week also. Rough.

 

Just go to Other Half and Lost Generation. That would scratch my itch well.

 

If you feel like making a trek to VA, The Brew Shop in Arlington and Dominion in Falls Church are really excellent shops.

 

Anyone try or have thoughts on Hop Butcher’s beers?

 

I was going to buy some at Dominion but the cans were undated, so I passed.

 

got 2 NE IPA’s from Craft Beer Cellar before they closed, they were well made and enjoyable.

 

Do any other stores in the area allow you to buy singles like CBC did?

 

The Brew Shop lets you buy any beer in the store as a single. Dominion has a limited single selection. Both sell crowlers as well, though Dominion has a much larger selection, as they also have a restaurant.

 

I think Total Wine and Trader Joe's let you break apart four and six packs to buy a single.
